I thought it was a good rant, but a bit repetitive the entire time. You already told us about bad original programming in the first rant about TV Land you did, and you already told us about how badly the NAN programming is, so I just thought this was just telling us about it a new sense.

Still, your right on the ball about everything. TVLand is really not giving us what we want to see, and NAN is giving us double of what we want to see.

I've been reading for the past few weeks, and I've had a few problems with each "rant" that I've read. The biggest problem for me this week, though, is Solomon's comment on Sherman Hemsley/George Jefferson. As most of us who've watched more than a few episodes of The Jeffersons realize, George started his dry cleaning business before he became relatively wealthy, and he actually had to do the cleaning early on (as hinted at/seen in some of the flashback episodes of the series). Therefore, Sherman Hemsley actually working in a dry cleaners is not nearly the stretch that Solomon seems to believe.

This week's Rant was about the repeat marathon on N@N, the previous rant was about N@N's editing and the long week of the same show. I had no idea the the 4 hours of the marathon is repeated after 1am. Far as TV land, this week rant was about Back to the Grind, last week was about TV land Confidential. But I will probably wait until September to rant about N@N or TV land again because here is really nothing else to rant about at this point of the summer.

I just thought that this was very similar to the other 2 you already did on NAN and TV Land. I understand that almost every one here has something to complain about both networks, but I htought there were many other rants you could have done. In my opinion, I liked Back to the Grind, because there's not really anything else like it on television, and I happened to like seeing Sherman Helmsley and Marla Gibbs play their character's roles. But, that's just my opinion. Overall, good rant!

Ok I just doubled checked, 7/14/07 N@N rant did mention a marathon so I could have left that out. I was ranting about the same show everynight not how it's a Repeathon. And TV Land's rant on 7/21/07 was about TV Land confidential and I hinted in the rant that the next Rant would be about Back to the Grind since I hadn't watched it yet. So I went back to check because the last thing I want to be is repetitive-lol

It's probably time to turn off TV Land which is what most are doing. Ratings are down and TV Land execs cannot figure out how to save the network. You will know when the ratings are up...when they drop the Off-the-Clock Scheduling, and this is not going to end anytime soon. Running these shows...Confidential, Back to the Grind, etc. are ways to save money. They stated this when they first started these types of shows. It doesn't mean anyone is going to watch them but TV Land is saving money. Maybe if they get rid of the high paid execs who are killing the network, they could save money.

maybe next week you could talk a bit about how its annoying for cable channels (ones that arent only for sports) having baseball games jumping into the programming. TBS always ruins my primetime of Friends or Seinfeld or whatever they wanna put on for 3 hrs lol. When its raining and i wanna watch some tv i hate when im like o ya that show is on now then there is baseball. maybe not what you want to discuss but just something i think most of us hate. By the way, in no way am I against baseball or baseball or sports channels just on channels like TBS and WGN which are supposed to be airing other shows.

Back to the grind would be better if they focused on one celebrity for the full half-hour, rather than two celebs squeezed in 22 mins.

ABC Family used to show the baseball games, but they had nothing else to air in primetime, but then they sold the rights to air them to TBS, and that always bothered me too.

And, you could really tell that whole cabi driver singing the theme song thing was so acted, because I doubt a New York City taxi driver would never do that, no matter how much of an idiot he was.

I liked your latest rant, Solomon. I too think N@N and TVLAND suck, this summer.

I remember the good ol` days of Block Party Summer, in the late 90`s. Or Camp N@N in 2002...N@N would always have a marathon of 1 (and later 2) shows a night. This crap they're doing now (showing 1 show all week) is just absurd. It`s especially annoying that they repeat the same 8 or so episodes, just a few hours later.

I haven't watched N@N on a regular basis for over 2 years now. I grew tired of Full House (and had them all recorded). I was watching Roseanne on Oxygen and on DVD. And Who`s The Boss? and Murphy Brown were beyond snubbed, so I had no reason to watch the channel.

I've been watching The Cosby Show again this summer, but I really don't need a full week of it.

I liked the comparison of the marathons to going out to dinner at a restaurant, and then going back to that same place later on, LOL.

I agree about N@N airing a marathon, and then having regular scheduled programming later in the night. I really like that idea.

One thing you didn't point out was that they don't even run the marathon episodes in order! I've seen that the Roseanne and Full House episodes have been all over the place. They're also skipping a lot of Cosby Show episodes.....And when I talk about Roseanne, I mean they actually skipped years of episodes! What the hell? It`s just plain wrong. I would understand if the marathons were of favorites, or best of`s, but they aren't!

The bottom line is N@N sucks!

In my opinion, NAN does not suck, but their choices suck. Last summer was pretty good on NAN compared to what we are getting now. First of all, we still had a normal, weekend schedule, and every weekday, we got 2 marathons each night: from 10pm-2am it was the highly rated shows, and from 2pm-6am it was the low rated shows, like Murphy Brown and Mad About You. But now all we're getting this summer is 2 weeks of Roseanne, 2 cut up weeks of Full House, 1 week of Cosby, and about 4 weeks of Fresh Prince, considering it's on weekends for Full House. It sucks!

It's funny cause you're saying 2002 was the days, but that was only 5 years ago. That just goes to show how badly NAN has been doing in the last 5 years. And to think of it, it all started in 2004, when they aired Fresh Prince for the first time.

Solomon never "raids" any of my posts either, so I don't get the point of what Kenya was trying to say.

Anyways, I just found out the good side to NAN's thinking. I was out a family get togather last night, and I didn't get home until about 1am. So, when I turned on the TV to watch Cosby, I didn't miss any of the episodes, and I still got to see the ones that were on earlier in primetime, just in nlatenight. That's the first time that happened to me, so that has got to be the reason why they do that.

Yes, it was MUCH better when they had TWO marathons a night. I didn't watch N@N that much the past 2 summers, but I liked that they had their bigger shows (Roseanne, Full House, Fresh Prince, Cosby Show) in the earlier slot, and the other shows in the later marathon slot (Who`s The Boss? Murphy Brown, Newsradio, Mad About You, etc).

I'm happy they picked my 2 favorite shows to run week-long marathons. Roseanne and Full House. I like Cosby too but not as much as Roseanne and Full House. I just have two complaints with the marathons - 1. Nick-at-Nite is not running these episodes in order. And 2. I was pretty pissed off on Friday the 20th when I got back to my hotel room and found out that The Full House Marathon had been usurped by a Fresh Prince Marathon. Come on now. The Roseannne Marathon the week before ran for 7 staight days, as did The Cosby Show Marathon that ran this past week.

Technically, they are airing the episodes in order. It seems like for every marathon, they have been airing a few episodes from each season a night. For example, Monday would be episodes from season 1, Tuesday would be episodes from season 2, etc. I think this is a way to play the episodes that have more airplays left, so they don't have to air episodes that don't have many airplays left.

TV Land has sucked for a long time now. Bring back more classic TV shows and dump all the original programming. There is just no room for original programming on a network that is suppose to air reruns of old shows. And classic TV is NOT the Cosby Show or Extreme Makeover. Is it a monkey that runs TV Land now or what???

Yeah But I still think the fact that he was the boss on the show there was no need for him to be on Back to the Grind. His main job while on the Jeffersons was maintaining seven cleaner stores not actually working in them. He was kind of like Mr. Drummond on Diffrent Strokes, he was the boss and was just mainly seen coming home and going to work. Now in Marla Gibbs case it made sense because we saw her character working on the Jeffersons unlike Sherman Hemsley's character

In the first season of "All in the Family," Lionel explained that his mom and dad had opened up a single cleaning store, thanks to settlement money left over from an auto accident (rear ended by a bus). Lionel did indicate that business was so good at the new store that his dad was thinking of opening up a second (or, perhaps, eventually a chain of stores, as Edith gleefully speculated). It seems possible, from this explanation, that George was probably very much active in his business during those earliest days, rather than simply being the manager that he seemed to become later on.

This explanation differs quite a bit from a flashback episode of "The Jeffersons," set in 1968 during the Martin Luther King assassination. That episode depicted George and Louise as a struggling couple, trying to fulfill their dream of owning a business. In that version, there was no auto accident or money from a settlement.

All in the Family was after 1968, and so was The Jeffersons. In The Jeffersons episode you're talking about, it was 1968, and the store they bought was a disaster, so they never actually started the dry cleaning business on that day. It obviosuly took them time to start it. So, by 1972, in the All in the Family episode you're talkinb about, they had already started, and it was already becoming successful, There isn't necessarily a mix up there.
