View Full Version : One Month To Go
80s_Fan 07-27-2007, 04:27 PM As of today; I have one month to go until I start school and I'm starting to get scared, nervous, etc....I know it's normal and everything.
Does anybody have any advice/tips that could help me not be so nervous?
I haven't been in school for about 14 yrs. now and it will be a lot harder
and more demanding than high school but regardless of all that; I'm trying to stay positive and not freak out too much.
I would greatly appreciate any/all positive responses from anyone.
Thanks!!
Mikado 07-27-2007, 04:32 PM Buy yourself something really nice...school clothes-wise, and promise yourself not to wear it anywhere other than in class, might make you actually look forward to it ;)
freshprinceofLA 07-27-2007, 09:06 PM try to get on your teachers good side and study as much as possible GOOD LUCK:wave:
Remember: you have 14 years of life experience that most of your classmates won't have. Sometimes real world experience is worth more than classroom experience. :)
80s_Fan 08-11-2007, 07:03 PM Well, I have about 2 weeks left before I start school and I'm getting pretty scared, nervous, excited all at once. I'm really looking forward to it.
Any last minute advice, tips, suggestions, etc...?
Go to the bookstore and see which books your instructors are planning to use (don't buy them yet in case you decide to drop/add). You might already be familiar with some of the books. Also, close your eyes and visualize yourself as a successful student. It also might help to visualize how you would handle it if you make a mistake. If you visualize yourself laughing it off or thanking the instructor for clarifying the question because you viewed it differently, you will come across as more confident in class. Remember, other students will be just as nervous as you. Many of them might have been in school more recently than you have, but this is still a new experience for them. Good luck. :)
RoryGilmore 08-13-2007, 11:18 AM All I can say is good luck and I'm sure you'll be fine, if your going back after so many years that does say something so I'm sure you'll be fine dont worry about it so much your probably making it seem worse then its actually going to be and you'll be surprised when you actually get in there.
80s_Fan 08-17-2007, 06:47 PM As of today; there are ten days to go and counting. I'm really looking forward to it. I hope all goes well and that I make it. I will keep you all posted as it goes and when I have the time because I'm pretty sure that I will be so busy with homework, etc... that I might not have as much time to come on here as often like I do now.
I don't work tonight or tomorrow and I'm on vacation for one week.
Also, I won't be working nights anymore cause I'm going to school.
Last night was my last night of working from 9pm - 5am; somtimes
I started at 9:30 or 10:00; it varied from time to time.
Starting after my vacation; I will be working less hours and I will be
working days and/or evenings but no more night shift unless they really
need me and/or I can do maybe one night only; have to wait and see.

you'll be fine. speaking as a mature student (i.e over 21 years old) i'm sure you'll cope well enough. just remember that although you lack academic experience on the studying front, your life experiences will work in your advantage, providing that you put and utilise the skills and knowldge to good use, as well as be able to take on board new skills and knowledge. learning has no age limits- just go into class focused, determined and eager to learn and perform to the best of your ability and it will pay off in the end. best of luck!:)
80s_Fan 08-25-2007, 11:11 AM Yesterday, I went for my orientation and I really walked a lot and I was pretty tired last night. I went around to find my classes so that way I won't be totally lost next week. I'm sure that after a few weeks or more; I will definitely lose some weight; which is good because I need to lose some.
My work schedule has changed; I won't be working nights anymore which I'm also happy about. All in all; I hope that everything works out fine.
