LOS ANGELES - “The View” is about to get a lot bigger with reports that Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd will join the panel.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Whoopi, who had been tipped for months to fill a “View” seat, will join the show’s new season. Many originally expected Goldberg to become an official member following the early departure of Rosie O’Donnell in May.

In not-too-surprising news, Sherri Shepherd, the African-American comedian who has eloquently shared a spot on the show off and on over the last several months, has also been reportedly offered the job.


The Times says ABC is in final negotiations with the two women who would add more diversity to the all-white panel. The current “View” hosts are Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The new panelists are expected to be announced publicly next week.

ABC however would not comment on the news, telling the Times, “We have nothing to announce right now.”

I heard this on the news at 6 in the morning today. I figured it would be one of those two. I guess it is great that they will keep those two rather than try and pick one of them.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I see "The View" as a hen house without a rooster. Peck, peck, peck.

I'm glad to see Whoopi & Sherri being added to "The View".

That's how it used to be....

I love that Sherri is going to be there for now on....But I find myself very bored whenever Whoopi is on.

I think they should have added Sherri, and kept that revolving guest chair going. It mixes things up. I liked it.

BARBARA WALTERS NAMES WHOOPI GOLDBERG MODERATOR OF “THE VIEW”



Barbara Walters, creator/executive producer and co-host of ABC’s “The View,” officially announced today, live on “The View,” that Whoopi Goldberg has been named moderator of her Emmy® Award-winning morning talk and entertainment show. Since the show’s inception, Ms. Goldberg has made thirteen guest appearances and has been a guest co-host fourteen times. She will debut on “The View” on September 4 (11:00 a.m.–12:00 noon, ET), the start of the show’s

eleventh season.



“We are delighted that Whoopi is going to join ‘The View’ as our moderator. She is an enormously popular and talented star. This is going to be a great new chapter for ‘The View,’”said Ms. Walters.



“We are thrilled to have Whoopi join us as moderator for the eleventh season of ‘The View,’” said Brian Frons, president, Daytime Disney-ABC Television Group. “She is a grounded soul, funny, wise and a good listener, all of which will work well for her in that role. It should be quite an ensemble.”

She has appeared in countless other films, including “Ghost,” a role that earned her the Academy Award® and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. Ms. Goldberg has also made numerous appearances on television, including “Comic Relief” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and served as host of the Academy Awards multiple times. In 1992 she hosted her own late night talk show that was hailed by critics. She s the recipient of the Grammy®, Emmy® and the 2002 Tony Award® and Drama Desk Award

as a producer for the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” as well as the 1985 Theater World and Drama Desk Award for her one woman show, “Whoopi Goldberg.” She recently published her third book and will continue to host her daily radio show, “Wake Up with Whoopi,” which is syndicated nationally by Clear Channel.
