OK, this is sort of VHS and DVD related, so I wasn't sure that this was really fit for the DVD forum. If it doesn't fit here please move it accordingly....

Is there anyone else like me that, if you have a show already videotaped, doesn't go and buy the show on DVD? Some people I know buy EVERYTHING on DVD, have it or not, regardless of the price. I don't have a whole lot of money, so I try to spend my money wisely with what I buy. If it's a show I really, really, REALLY like, such as I Love Lucy, I buy the seasons I really like on DVD and even keep my tapes, LOL. That big cabinet needs something in it anyway :lol:...call me a packrat!!! The only series I have entirely are The Munsters, Mary Tyler Moore (all of the released sets), and Gilligan's Island now, and I really didn't have many of those on tape. Many of my tapes I put a lot in to, and even cut the commercials out of many of them. It'd be painful to get rid of them, LOL!!!!

Any others like this??? lol

I buy some DVD's now because they ruined the opportunity to get a quality tape with all the advertising graphics, logos and sounds. Some channels start their show late or run over the half-hour slot so using the timer isn't an option.

One thing I like about the DVD's is that you can skip to a particular episode quickly.

Sometimes I replace my old anime on VHS with DVD, simply because the quality is SO much better....has to be a series i REALLY love though.

True. Thankfully, many of my tapes came from TV Land circa 2001-2004 before they started trashing the screen that much and aired shows on time.

Raises hand! Me! I know the extras are nice, but I can't justify spending the bucks when I already have the show on tape. There are exceptions though, because I have every ep of My So-Called Life on tape, but plan to buy the DVD this Fall when it comes out. One of the extras is of the writers attending a lecture/question and answer series at Berkeley (I think?) and I've heard such great things about it, I really want to see it. They talk about what they'd planned for the second season had they not been cancelled.

Tapes are good to have in that if you quit watching in the middle you can pick up where you left off.
I still like watching and recording Survivor on tape. I also like going to flea markets etc... and finding a rare or hard to find movie/tv show on tape for a buck or 2.

that's so true. actually in the UK, back then, sitcoms were never released on old VHS tape and so although whilst we were able to watch the likes of the fresh prince, cosby show etc during the 90s and 80s on tv, these were made unavailable on video. having said that i never taped the shows but thank goodness for dvds because you don't have to fast forward and rewind, and plus you can easily skip certain episodes or moments from your favourite tv shows that you dislike watching for example. and yes you get special features on dvds that we didn't get through video tapes. although with certain sitcom shows or tv shows in general, the extras tend to be crap. it varies with different shows really.

Yes, but remember not everyone can afford to go buy DVDs. Not everyone has $20-50+ even to go buy shows/movies on DVD each time a new release they want comes out.

You know - all of the DVDs I have just about have special features....and I've never watched them, LOL

I mainly buy the DVD's if I don't already have it on tape. And even doing it that way, can still runs into the big bucks. Wish I was rich and could buy everything on DVD. lol!

I always buy every DVD that I want to add to my collection, mo matter what the price is. What I do is right when I find out it's being released, I check the price, and put away that much money for it in an envelope, so I'm no looking for moneu to get it at the last minute. I've been doing that since 2005, and it seems to have worked since then.

I only buy the shows I love the most on DVD because I really want the full, uncut episodes and I love the extras when they have them (bloopers, commentaries, etc). Otherwise, TV/VHS will suffice.
