I want to buy a season of All in the Family, but I don't know what season.

i suggest seasons 2 3 4 and 5 but mostly 4 its really funny so far I have all six seasons

Season 1 I think is the best. When everyone first meets each other. The plots were also much more funny. Other seasons are ok also. Stick to the early ones.
