**Hi I'm sorry the ending might seem a bit rushed but anyway, other than that it's not so rushed so read and respond!!!**
((the cafeteria. Jo, Blair, Mrs. G, Nat and Tootie are all in there, along with wrapping paper and ribbons flying everywhere. Jo is opening all the presents not yet opened. She opens up a box to see a new jacket))
Jo: "To Jo on her birthday. Love, Tootie and Natalie".
Natalie: I chipped in $20. Tootie only put in $5.
Mrs. Garrett: Natalie!
Natalie: What? It doesn't matter!
Jo: What matters is that the thought counts!
Blair: No matter what the price!
((Jo smiles at her.))
Jo: So, Blair, what'd you get me?
Blair: Ah, uh.. umm... ((coughs a little))... I, uh, got you...
Jo: Did you forget?
Blair: No! Not Blair Warner forgetting anyone's birthday...
((Jo looks disappointed. Blair hands her a medium-sized wrapped present))
Blair: ..I didn't even forget yours. Of course, I did get a brilliant idea just before your birthday and...
((Jo opens the present))
Jo ((a little upset)): A book on how to wash a motorcycle?
Blair: The thought counts!
Jo ((sarcastically)): I'll be sure to read it tonight.
Mrs. Garrett: It's a wonderful gift, Blair.
Jo: Sure is. ((gets up, holding her presents)). Thanks, Nat and Tootie for the jacket... Thanks, Mrs. G for the new helmet... and ((turns to Blair)) I'll read the book.
Blair: Not even a thank you?
Jo: Thanks for remembering.
((leaves))
((the girls room. Jo puts her presents on her bed, then walks over to her desk. She notices a piece of paper on it.))
Jo: Probably some note Tootie or Nat left.
((reads it))
Jo: "A check... made out to Jo ((stops reading)): Whoever wrote this spelled my last name really wrong.. ((continues reading)): for her birthday, a total of $1000 and 99 cents." ((stops reading)). Who is this from?
((looks it over. There is an address but no name))
Jo: New York City.
((Mrs. G comes in))
Mrs. G: I see you've settled all your presents in and... Jo, what's wrong?
Jo: I got this on my desk.
((Mrs. G reads it and then sighs))
Mrs. G: Not from me.
Jo: You sure?
Mrs. G: I'm positive. And I don't think it's from Nat or Tootie.
Jo: Mrs. G, it might be from Blair..
Mrs. G: I don't think so.
Jo: But she lived in New York! Her father works in New York!
Mrs. G: Even then, Jo, I don't think someone your age would give another person the same age something like this.
Jo: Except for Blair.
((Blair, Natalie and Tootie come in))
Blair: Except for me for what?
Mrs. G: Do you know anything about a certain check made out to Jo for her birthday?
Blair: A check?
Natalie: Ever heard of one?
Blair: Of course. We Warners certainly know about checks... but I don't know about this one.
Jo: I'm suddenly $1000.99 richer.
Blair: Let me see it.
((Blair picks it up))
Blair: How funny... I know this address..
Jo: Because you sent it.
Tootie: Jo got a check from BLAIR?
Blair: It's my father's work address.
Jo: Told you, Mrs. G.
Blair: He must have sent it because he knew you went to Eastland and we helped you with your scholarship and... I don't know...
Mrs. G: It's a nice gift from Blair but it's just a lot of money!!! ((she looks kind of shocked after reading the check again))
Jo: Who cares about that? As you said, Blair...
Blair: What'd I say?
Jo: It's the thought that counts, no matter what the price.
