View Full Version : Board Has Been Slow
Jack1000 07-17-2007, 06:53 PM Hello,
I have been coming to Sitcoms Online for many years. Over the past several days, I have noticed board slow down. The screen often does not change when posts go through, and I sometimes have to sit for 5 minutes waiting for a page to change. This has never happened before and only seems to happen on this site. When I hit the stop button in the browser, I find that upon checking the board that my post has gone through.
This could be a temporary thing. But the board is not as fast as it used to be.
Jack
Mr. Television 07-17-2007, 06:59 PM This board has been pretty bad for over a month. Sometimes it goes fine and sometimes it's virtually impossible to post. It just acted up a few minutes ago for me.
The Idol 07-17-2007, 08:39 PM a few weeks ago it was really bad but today it has been O.K., and i'm on dialup ...
Janice 07-17-2007, 10:38 PM It's very frustrating and takes the fun out of the site. I hope that it doesn't discourage new members from staying around. Is there an update on why it's still happening?

It does take the fun out of the site. What can be done?
I don't think it has been that bad, especially over the last few days. It certainly hasn't been like it was at the start of the month. There are spikes that I've seen where it would probably be noticeably slower. Things have improved gradually. I'm just receiving e-mails that were sent several weeks ago, so it appears that the backlog is finally getting cleared out. It's frustrating that I'm pretty sure I know what is causing the slowdown, but I've not received the technical support to fix it. If I turn on the mail server, the server loads sky rocket and it makes everything slower. If I turn off the mail server, everything runs smoothly but the mail queue just gets bigger.
Ireneparalegal 07-17-2007, 11:39 PM I had a bad time earlier today where I couldn't post at all. Also yesterday it was real bad. For the past several days it will be real slow and then go real good.
Janice 07-18-2007, 12:33 AM TJ, this sounds like a job for Roto-Rooter, lol. You know, when it's good, like now, it's great, but when it's slow, I want to scream. omg:

Ahh, just throw it at the hubby. I'm sure they've gotten away with things we don't know about, so for good measure, you know.
Mr. Television 07-18-2007, 03:57 PM Well the boards sure don't seem normal today. They've been awful.

Absolutely, the boards have been super slow and it takes FOREVER to post. This can't continue like this.

and that's if your lucky enough to even get on the website.
Brian Damage 07-18-2007, 04:27 PM and that's if your lucky enough to even get on the website.
Agreed, it sometimes doesn't even allow you on.
It took me over 20 minutes to get on the site today, I almost gave up on it.
Janice 07-18-2007, 05:09 PM I just got on. Tried all day, off and on.
Mikado 07-18-2007, 08:48 PM i think its some kind of spyware....when i leave this site, my mouse runs bad for 2/3 hours afterwords too!
Ireneparalegal 07-18-2007, 08:52 PM My God, I have to copy my posts "just in case" because it may not go through. This is ridiculous. Really it is a pain in the a**. I am in a foul mood as it is and to not even be able to get in or try and post without losing my post has gotten on my last frazzled nerve.

That's happened to me a lot lately. :(
Also when I use the search function it usually stops in the middle.
Mikado 07-18-2007, 09:54 PM Maybe they should erase any threads which havent been updated in more than 2 years, to speed things up.
Ireneparalegal 07-18-2007, 09:57 PM Man, it took me 20 minutes to get back on the boards right now.
Nighthawk76 07-18-2007, 10:49 PM The slow pace at which the boards have been running is really becoming annoying. I understand that it takes alot of technical work to keep a board this complex up and running, but it has been like three weeks now. Having to wait up to five minutes for a post to go through just takes the fun out of it.
Ireneparalegal 07-18-2007, 10:51 PM It took me five minutes to read a PM I received. I clicked and waited and waited and waited. Nothing. Then it went to WEBSITE NOT RESPONDING.
Mr. Television 07-18-2007, 11:44 PM The boards been going up and down all night for me. It goes fast a few times and then slows down and then it starts up again.
Janice 07-19-2007, 12:49 PM The boards are working great today. I love it!
So far so good this afternoon.
Ireneparalegal 07-19-2007, 06:35 PM Well, it took me ten minutes to try and get in. This is worse than trying to get into some hip club on Sunset Strip.

Irene, I think you are either overexaggerating or you have the world's slowest internet connection, lol.

With the way it has been around here, I feel like I am on dial-up...and I have CABLE!
Mikado 07-20-2007, 12:02 AM I am on dial up...it was like being on tin can telephone, for me ;)
Mr. Television 07-20-2007, 12:06 AM It's been pretty good for me today but yesterday it was a real chore getting on.

Thanks Janice. :) This season of Shark should be great. :D
Ireneparalegal 07-20-2007, 11:37 PM It's been great this evening. As a matter of fact, only a few times this afternoon was it slow, but other than that, running great.
Mr. Television 07-22-2007, 01:11 PM  one of those days I guess.....
Ireneparalegal 07-22-2007, 06:35 PM Tell me abt it Sonny...:ufo:

It's still not that healthy. It just knocked me off again.
Corolla 07-23-2007, 06:51 AM Today when I tried to access the site it wouldn't load, so I stopped it and refreshed and it loaded... slowly. After that, pages have been loading not overly slow but slower than usual.
ComedyGuy 09-20-2007, 10:17 AM I am glad I found this site the other day and the forum software is tons better than the TVLAND forum but this site and the threads seem to load rather slow, could it be the ads that slow the loading proces down and the ads are a bit annoying but at least they're not the pop up kind.
I think most people would agree that the boards are loading way faster than they were in July and parts of the August. I don't think loading of the ads, which are necessary to pay for the server costs, are a factor.
Anybody else notice an increase in speed over the last few weeks? We moved the mail server to webmail.us and it seems to have made a world of difference. The server was getting tens of thousands of spams to non-existent e-mail addresses daily.
It's funny how everybody complains when it's slow, but when it runs faster nobody seems to notice and give praise, lol.

The board has actually been running pretty good for me for about a month now at least.
Ireneparalegal 09-20-2007, 09:32 PM I just hate the damn pop-ups that keep me from S.O. for at least a good 30 seconds to a minute. I have my pop-up blocker on and it says "Block pop-ups from Sitcomsonline" but still, these particular pop-ups appear every single time I sign in. Maybe I should just remain signed in and never sign out. Also, the few that pop-up out of nowhere are also annoying.

I can understand that. When I first got this computer a few months ago the pop ups on SO were driving me crazy. I have my pop-up blocker on too now and still a few get through although it's not that bad anymore.
On the boards, you shouldn't be getting more than 1 popunder every 12 hours. If you are seeing more, you might want to check your cookies. Logging in/out would have nothing to do with it.

I will do that. Thank you. As for signing in, I am merely saying when I sign in, all of a sudden I am deluged with pop-ups. When I remain signed in (don't sign out for the evening) and just click on S.O. the next day, I have no pop-ups.
Mikado 09-20-2007, 11:11 PM im having a lot of trouble tonight....ive had to log in twice in the last half hour
