I vaguely remember a case of a woman who was writing a book on vampires or the "underground" and apparently went undercover to research her book and disappeared. Does anyone remember her and is there anything new on it?

Man, no wonder my mom freaks out when I start watching a lot of "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer." I hadn't even heard of this case until just a second ago.
