View Full Version : Victoria Beckham Confirms 'Ugly Betty' Interest
Brian Damage 07-16-2007, 09:11 PM Victoria Beckham has confirmed she's considering a guest appearance on TV show Ugly Betty.
Show regular Eric Mabius revealed last month producers were keen to get the singer-turned-designer on board for at least one episode.
He said, "We can see her fitting in as a cameo now [that] she is about to be big in the U.S."
And Beckham, who arrived in Los Angeles last week, is just as interested.
Despite admitting she's a terrible actor, she is confident her real-life part wouldn't take much work to perfect: "I'm seriously considering it. I'd be playing myself... and would get to wear fabulous outfits so it wouldn't be acting."
catlover79 07-16-2007, 09:46 PM This woman is becoming as big a media whore as Eva Longoria. She's EVERYWHERE these days! :angryfire

big in what? she is famous for being married to a football- excuse me, soccer player, though frankly i am sick of the beckhams. attention seeking a*** holes they are. i don't understand why people and the media, in the west as well as the rest of the world are obssessed with them to be quite frank.
Mikado 07-17-2007, 07:24 PM Well, its not as this was HER idea.....Blame the producers , they WANT her on.

Well, at least she admits that she can't act, which is more that can be said for a whole bunch of people on TV these days.
;)

well, if i was a tv producer, i wouldn't want anything to do with her, her husband or them as a couple. i wouldn't have them on my show

yeah, but the same can be said about her singing ability, or the sheer lack of it

I don't think everyone is obsessed. They get lots of attention, because they are both very attractive people, and Americans in general have a fascination with the British. It's become a curiosity that they've come to live here. I'd be willing to bet if Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie moved to Britain, they'd get lots of attention too. It's all going to wear off in time.

i think that in the west, particularly from where i am in the UK and the US, the media and certain people, though not all of them are obssessed with the whole celebrity culture, where anyone regardless of one's talent or lack of, or field they base their trade on can become recognised and 'stars' themselves. the thing is though with victoria, she is trying to redeem herself in the US by trying her hand at TV, whilst david is trying to rejuvenate and rebrand soccer and make it more appealing to americans. but the truth is with the latter, in particular i fail to see how soccer will be just as popular as basketball, baseball, ice hockey, football, never mind overtake them. that will never happen, from my understanding, and not even with beckham's presence on the field itself, will that ever change
T-Greg 07-20-2007, 09:49 AM You're right on target with celebrity culture. Look no further than Paris Hilton. She's famous because of the Hilton name. She gets paid for showing up at certain nightclubs...only in America! You are right about soccer in the US. It will never top the big 3 (baseball, football and basketball), or even come close. If it gets kids interested, that's good. It's better than having kids playing sports than sitting at home playing video games. Have you ever seen the video with David Beckham and Reggie Bush? Pretty cool.

i've seen the video, btw t-greg and gridiron is basically the same as rugby, which is the english version of the sport- it has the same rules, although the players don't wear helmets or padding. and yes, you're right- if it succeeds in attracting not just newer fans but also more up and coming young players then so be it. but frankly, in truth you look at the greats of american sport- john madden (grid iron), michael jordan (basketball), cal ripken Jr (baseball), and then you look at US soccer itself, and so far no US- born player has been that successful, overall. although that could all change with freddy adu- who is still considered by many as one of the most promising young soccer players to come out of the united states.
in truth, the US soccer authorities in the sport shouldn't turn to overseas players such as beckham to further promote the game in their own market but help further promote the young home grown talents of adu, demarcus beasely and landon donovan to name- of whom are really good players. interesting to note the women's game in the US has been much more of a success in contrast to the men's game. does anyone have an answer as to why that is the case?

I'll give it a shot. Lots of young girls in the U.S. had a role model in women players like Mia Hamm. She was a star on the U.S. National team that won the gold medal in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. I'm sure that helped with the interest in women's soccer. Also, keep in mind that there are not very many professional women's sports to begin with. Most men I know are not interested in the women's game. Women's basketball is a farce in their view. Most guys (including myself) will watch women's beach volleyball, for obvious reasons..half-naked women, in great shape, diving and jumping....Men who grew up playing typical American sports are not very interested in imported sports like soccer or hockey. It's just not "our thing" for the most part. That's my take.

yeah, i've heard of mia hamm. she was the captain of the US women's national soccer team back in the 90s i think. also, you mentioned that women's basketball is somewhat of a joke, but isn't the WNBA as successful- if not more successful than the professional men's NBA league?

There is no comparing the WNBA and NBA. Not even close. The interest in the NBA far exceeds the popularity of the WNBA. The team salary of NBA teams is capped at about $55 million. That was just instituted this year. That means that's the max you can pay all of the players combined in any given year. Shaquille O'Neal is one of the top paid players at about $20 million per year. Compare that to the WNBA. I believe the minimum is about $35,000 per player and the max is about $100,000. The team cap this year is $728,000. That says a lot.

and so, basically the talented female basketball player, whoever she is gets as much as $100,000 compared to someone like shaq, who gets $20 million? how much money in TV rights per se does the WNBA receive?

As sexist as it sounds, that's life. The NBA can justify it though, as the sponsorship for the NBA is much larger and much more lucrative. TV ads for the WNBA cost much less and the marketing of NBA products is huge!
Brian Damage 07-28-2007, 10:13 AM Spice Girl Victoria Beckham will cameo in the upcoming second season of Ugly Betty, the show's executive producer has confirmed.
The 33-year-old singer, who moved to Los Angeles earlier this month, will star in a wedding-themed episode of the hit ABC comedy.
Producer Marco Pennette enthuses, "There's a wedding dress involved. There's a wedding involved with her storyline."
Pennette joked, "But we want her husband (David) on set. It's one of the requirements."
Ugly Betty star Becki Newton, who plays binge-eating receptionist Amanda, hopes her character clashes with Beckham.
She says, "Amanda is going to be like, 'I'm not standing next to Posh because she's too skinny. She's gonna make me look fat.' Amanda's gonna take her down."
catlover79 07-28-2007, 10:23 AM ^ I'll be sure not to watch.

man, is there nothing this so-called media whore won't do for media attention? as a fan of this show, i am very dissapointed that the producers have decided to cast her in ugly betty and like catlover herself, i am not going to tune in. i hate the beckhams and for marco to ask her whether she wants to be involved is a big mistake. besides, who's the next celeb b-lister they are going to ask to appear in the show? paris 'freeloading' hilton?

You said it! Why do they want to mess up the show by putting V. B. on it? I am so disappointed!
Since NBC aired her very very short lived (one freaking episode) "reality" show about her big splash in L.A. I am surprized she doesn't want to make some cameo on an NBC show...
Oh wait, her NBC "reality" show never happened because it was a big zero from the getgo, so I guess NBC is done with her.
I snark, therefore I am.
