LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has renewed its veteran talkers "The Jerry Springer Show" and "Maury" through September 2010 on the Tribune and Sinclair broadcast station groups.

Tribune stations carrying "Springer," which is heading into its 17th season in the fall, include WPIX New York, KTLA Los Angeles, WPHL Philadelphia, KDAF Dallas, WDCW Washington and KHCW Houston. Sinclair stations include WPGH Pittsburgh, WTTE Columbus, Ohio, and WSTR Cincinnati.

Tribune stations extending "Maury," going into its 10th season in the fall, include WPIX New York, KTLA Los Angeles, WGN Chicago, WPHL Philadelphia, KDAF Dallas, WDCW Washington and KHCW Houston. Sinclair stations include WPGH Pittsburgh, KDNL St. Louis, WTTE Columbus and WSTR Cincinnati.

For the upcoming season, "Springer" and "Maury" are renewed in more than 96 percent of the country.

"Springer," executive produced by Richard Dominick, had the highest percentage of adults 25-54 this past season among syndicated talkers. It launched two new shows this year -- VH1's "The Springer Hustle" and the upcoming talker "The Steve Wilkos Show." Springer also is hosting NBC's "America's Got Talent" this summer.

There was a time when these shows tackled many issues, some important , some silly, but, unfortunately both have become "one trick ponies" Maury has become the "DNA testing to find the Father" show and Jerry is the "Hillbilies who are cheating on their wives, who happen to be their cousins" show.....maybe its time to put these old war horses down, but, apparently, they are still making money; which means they could outlive us all!

It's pretty safe to say Maury and Jerry are still popular in the Atlanta area. Both shows come on 3 times a day.

Good question, Cat! I don't understand why Springer is even on in the daytime-he should be on late night. Maury should still be on in late afternoon. Nevermind the latter point-Jerry Springer, with his kind of content should be running about midnight-his show really isn't daytime television appropriate. Neither of their shows should be on in the mornings. I'm not sure what you think, Cat, but I'd like to have your take on this.

Personally, I don't think these shows should be on the air at all!! If they have to be on the air, stick them in the insomniac time slot between 1-6 AM. Jerry Springer was once the mayor of my wonderful home state of Ohio and wrote a personal check to a hooker. Enough said!

Thanks for your insight, Cat. Daytime talk shows really need to be cleaned up and both Springer and Maury, after reading your thoughts, need to be booted from daytime television.

Maury is hilarious because time never changes on that show. It's the same rotating topics each month. I only see it like at 3 in the morning, lol :)
