This morning, I saw the episode where Laura sold Grandmother Winslow's family quilt. The entire episode was about the grandmother laying a massive guilt trip on Laura for losing the blanket. Actually, the blame belongs on Grandmother Winslow for leaving the quilt in the box with the other stuff in the first place and never telling Laura what it means to the family. I mean, can anyone blame Laura for selling it for $250 without knowing the history??

Not really, but she still shouldn't have done it. But of course, Estelle should have told her about the quilt before. But a later episode called "Brown bombshell" will show, that those kids weren't interested in their family's history.

Well, why did Estelle leave the quilt in the box with all the other stuff to be sold? You would think she would protect the family history better. It just bothered me Laura took the rap for Estelle's carelessness.

Yeah, that's a good point. But the quilt was in that box before, and no one thought anyone would offer Laura 300 dollars for it anyway. Also, it had to happen, or the episode wouldn't have had a plot.

Mother Winslow did tell Laura not to sell that particular quilt before she left. She just didn't tell her what the Quilt actually was though. When that Lady came in and offered Laura $300 for it. She felt torn. I mean $300 is a LOT of money to a 13 year old. I would have felt the same way. It didn't make much sense though how they were saving up for a VCR, since by 1989 a lot of people already had VCR's in their homes. It would have made more sense if she said they were saving up for a CD player or something like that.

The Winslows weren't a rich family though. Even though both Carl and Harriet worked, that had problems making ends meet. I think a VCR wasn't that important to them. Or maybe they had a VCR, that broke down, and they couldn't afford to buy a new one.
