View Full Version : Rosie wanted to "gay up" The Price is Right

Despite earlier reports that Rosie O’Donnell declined the opportunity to host the Price Is Right because she didn’t want to uproot her family from New York City to L.A., the truth is that CBS turned her down. “They thought I was too controversial to host the game show,” O’Donnell said on her R Family Vacations cruise from New York to the Bahamas. “I just wanted to ‘gay it up.’” So what did O’Donnell propose? For starters, she wanted to get rid of Barker’s beauties in favor of a chorus line of Broadway hunks, confetti, musical bumpers and a much-needed set makeover “so the colors actually match!” O’Donnell admits she was disappointed by the network’s decision because she began watching the game show shortly after her mother died 35 years ago.

While O’Donnell is mulling over other offers to start her own daytime talk show, she has plans to release a tell-all book on Sept. 18 that documents her 10-month sojourn on The View. And it promises to be the hot topic next season. “It’s not mean-spirited,” O’Donnell says. “It’s just honest.” —

I really don't get Rosie O'Donnel. She tries to look for controversy, but then she denies anything ever happened. Typical . . .

I knew it, and mriggles was right when he said that Rosie was never under consideration for TPIR. All she does is make a fool out of herself whenever she opens her mouth. Now she's making cracks about the TPIR, just like she's knocking everyone on The View and even writing a book about it. Nobody's going to want to hire her, with her rotten attitude. What a loser. I think it's time to put up my Rosie wearing the Santa hat avatar again, lol.

Oh come ONNNNNN.......I dont believe one word of that report, unless Rosie was being sarcastic ( And i wouldnt blame her ).....this sounds like a totally bogus bit of anti-gay propaganda. For one thing, Rosie doesnt own the show, Bob Barker and his partners do; theres no way Rosie could have made those changes, even she wanted to. ( And I seriously doubt that she would )

It's amazing that she already has a "tell all" book about The View ready to go. Her ghost writers must have been working on this for months!

I know. She must have knew she was going to be fired or something, cause no one can write a book (especially Rosie) that fast!

My "tell all" book about Sitcoms Online didn't sell one copy. NOT ONE SINGLE COPY! Can you believe it? I guess mostly because I didn't have much to tell. I try to stay out of trouble around here. :)

And I think Rosie should have her own show again. The Price Is Right is all wrong for her, because she needs to be able to voice her opinion (as opposed to hosting pricing games). Whether you agree with that opinion or not.

, Bob Barker and his partners do; theres no way Rosie could have made those changes, even she wanted to.

Not quite: Fremantle Media, the production arm of RTL Group, owns the show, with CBS retaining some amount of production control. The most control Bob Barker had over the show was as executive producer. Barker lost this control when he retired.

As such, any changes made would have to go through CBS and Fremantle, but NOT Bob. Bob has no control over the show from this point forward, barring a miraculous return to the show. (This would include, for example, Bob prohibiting reruns of the show due to his troubles with nearly every model the show had for the first 30 years, the fur ban, etc - though it's said the producers will retain the fur ban as it was so important to Bob).

That said, Price's audience is on any given day largely senior citizens and college students, and if Rosie thought for one second the powers-that-be are going to allow any change that would alienate nearly the show's entire audience, while simultaneously not resulting in a bigger net gain...well Rosie, you lose.

it was probably 1/2 written before she was off the show and 1/2 the stuff she said and did was done with input from the writers of the book.

Ah i see, but, my main point is still valid that its unlikely that Rosie could have made any of these changes ( if not impossible ), even if she'd wanted to......If she really said these things, then, it was almost certainly Rosie being sarcastic, in order to "twist the knife" into her detractors.

Leave it to Rosie to claim something happened that didn't happen.

I love Rosie but am glad that this change did not occurr. There would have been big trouble.

All I can say is thank God she didn't get the job. I find her a vulgar, loud-mouthed moron with no talent who just enjoys acting like a drunken, bawdy truck driver. Every time I see her on TV I want to puke.

From what I've seen so far, Rosie couldnt have done any worse a job, than Drew Cary is doing.

About ten years ago, if you asked me, I would have been a big supporter of Rosie hosting TPIR, but today is a much different story. I'm certainly glad she didn't get the job.

OH Nuts!

Rosie lives for publicity; she'll find something!
