I've been having this really strange dream for about 10 years now. I have it at least once a month. In the dream I am walking down a street in my neighborhood. This is a street I used to walk down regularly between the summer of 1987 and the spring of 1989. My bestfriend from that time lived on a court off of this street and this is the way I would walk to get from his house to my house. In the dream I am always walking home from his house. Also, I am at my present age in the dream and not my age at the time that he and I were friends.
As I'm walking down the street it is really overcast. Even though it is afternoon, it is almost as dark as night. I'm also scared. As I approach the streetcorner where this street leads off into another, I notice someone standing there wearing a black hooded robe. The person wearing the robe is also holding an old style pocket watch. The watch is mine. It was given to me by my grandfather many years ago. It is from the turn of the century and was given to him by his father who used it when he was a train conductor
As I get nearer to this hooded figure I begin to get really scared. When I reach the streetcorner, this person turns in my direction and looks at me. The hooded figure is me. Except that I'm really old. I usually wake up at this point.
I've always wondered what this dream is trying to tell me. It must be trying to tell me something since I have been having it so often and for so long. I think my coming across myself as an old man wearing a hooded robe is partly inspired by the 1976 Led Zeppelin concert film The Song Remains The Same. In one of the fantasy sequences, Jimmy Page comes accross a hooded figure who tunrs out to be himself as an old man. I just really wonder what this dream is supposed to mean overall.
A week ago, I went for a walk down the street that is featured in this dream for like the first time since 1989 and I was really scared for some reason. It was like I was sort of living the dream
Any thoughts? :)
