I don't remember much of this, except maybe it was in the Virgin Islands, or some tropical location. There was a black man who gave out some kind of "potion", and people died or was murdered. I don't remember if it was for money, or luck, or curses....my memories are too vague.

Does anyone know this case and what happened with it?

I don't know if there were ever any arrests but it happened in the Virgin Islands. At least 5 people were poisoned after drinking a "potion" that turned out to be cyanide.

You know I thought maybe it was but when I just checked I didn't see it so I guess not. I do have it though.

Hmm...I never saw this one. What was the guys motive? Just some sicko who liked poisoning people? Or did he have a motive?

A couple was found dead, covered with sea water. An autopsy showed that they had been poisoned with cyanide. Turns out, several other people had died like this years earlier, perhaps all traceable to a con man claiming to be a voodoo spiritualist. This is purely speculative on my part but maybe he told them there was a curse on them (like in some other conmen stories UM has profiled) and he told them for a price he could break the curse. When he collected the money he then gave them a potion he claimed would break the curse and it ended up being cyanide and killed them.

Thanks for giving me the info Crystaldawn. I think your speculation is probably correct, it makes a lot of sense. Or maybe he just said it would bring good luck to them, or make them happier, or something to draw people in for it, but a "curse" could have been how he drew them in as well.

Apostapler, I'm bumping this, regarding the victims being found soaked in sea water and dead from cyanide poisoning, but this isn't the discussion I'm trying to find. Still searching...

Thank you! Now I finally can read the details. It was so sketchy in my memory.
