andress_jade 07-02-2007, 09:41 PM Can you think of any actresses on shows that were pregnant while doing the show or shows?
Here are some actresses and shows where the pregnancy was hidden:
Barbara Eden-I Dream of Jeannie
Phylicia Rashad-The Cosby Show
Here are some actresses and shows where the pregnancy was written in:
Elizabeth Montgomery-Bewitched
Lucille Ball-I Love Lucy
Janet Hubert-Whitten-The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

If anyone can think of anymore to add feel free, I am sure I am forgetting a lot.

catlover79 07-02-2007, 11:54 PM Elizabeth Montgomery's first pregnancy in 1964 was covered as the show was just beginning with Samantha and Darrin's wedding, and it was deemed improper to write the pregnancy in. However, a year later when EM was pregnant with her second son, the pregnancy was written into the show as Tabitha. Same story in 1969 when EM gave birth to her daughter, as Sam gave birth to Adam.
Anne Schedeen (ALF) was pregnant with her daughter in 1989, and the pregnancy was written in as baby Eric. Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Seinfeld was pregnant twice, and both times it was covered up, and Jane Leeves' (Frasier) pregnancy was hidden too. Thank goodness in Elaine's case, can you even imagine her as a mother!?
treky 07-03-2007, 12:46 AM Shelly Long & Rea Perlman were both pregnent during the run of CHEERS once-not sure what season, though. With Shelley they covered it up; but with Rea they just wrote it into the show by having Carla become pregnant.
Susan Saint James was pregnant one season on KATE & ALLIE but they covered it up by having her wear a bunny costume in one episode (it was a halloween show) and in another one, she spent the entire episode in bed with a broken leg.
Roseanne Briggs-Dawson was pregnent in the 4th season of STAR TREK: VOYAGER; but they covered it up.
catlover79 07-03-2007, 01:06 AM Kathryn Erbe (L&O: CI) was pregnant in 2003, it was written in the show that Eames was a surrogate mother for her sister. Mariska Hargitay (SVU) was also pregnant but it was covered up.
Susan Richardson (Eight is Enough) was pregnant with her daughter in 1980, and her character Susan Bradford would also give birth to a daughter that year. Tyne Daly was pregnant during Cagney & Lacey, and it was written into the show. Patti LuPone was pregnant during Life Goes On's run, and I believe it was written into the storyline, but I don't remember.
treky 07-03-2007, 01:18 AM Gates McFadden was pregnant one season on STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION; but they covered it up.
Lisa Kudrow was pregnant during the run of FRIENDS once; and they wrote it into the show. That was the season that Phebe was a surrogate mother.
LaDolceDita* 07-03-2007, 02:38 AM CC Babcock (Lauren Lane) on The Nanny, and Lisa Kudrow on Friends. They included it in the story line as Phoebe being the surrogate mother of her brother's children.
comedyfreak 07-03-2007, 05:26 AM Shirley Feeny (Cindy Williams) on Laverne & Shirley was pregnant in real life.
Kimberly Williams (Dana) on According To Jim was pregnant in real life.
mstewart 07-04-2007, 01:57 AM Kathryn Erbe (L&O: CI) was pregnant in 2003, it was written in the show that Eames was a surrogate mother for her sister.
Patti LuPone's pregnancy was written into the show. The episode, The Visitor - Episode #25, was a powerful one when Libby learned she was pregnant. I cried during that episode especially when Libby was singing to the child and the scene with her and Corky at the end. The whole cast gave powerful performances in that one.
treky 07-04-2007, 02:19 AM Patti LuPone's pregnancy was written into the show. The episode, The Visitor - Episode #25, was a powerful one when Libby learned she was pregnant. I cried during that episode especially when Libby was singing to the child and the scene with her and Corky at the end. The whole cast gave powerful performances in that one.
never heard of LIFE GOES ON. What was it, a soap opera? Sounds like it.
treky 07-04-2007, 02:21 AM CC Babcock (Lauren Lane) on The Nanny, and Lisa Kudrow on Friends. They included it in the story line as Phoebe being the surrogate mother of her brother's children.
I already said that about Lisa Kudrow.
comedyfreak 07-04-2007, 04:38 AM Katie Segal (Peg Bundy) on Married With Children was pregnant in real life and it was written into the show during season 6. She lost the baby, so the writers pulled a dallas and the whole storyline was a dream Al had. I believe she got pregnant again and they hid it this time.
Race's Girl 07-04-2007, 07:19 AM Marcia Cross in Desperate Housewives
mstewart 07-04-2007, 11:59 AM never heard of LIFE GOES ON. What was it, a soap opera? Sounds like it.
It was a family drama. Here's the link that will tell you what the show was about:

Furienna 07-04-2007, 07:53 PM This is not a sitcom, but when Annie on "7th Heaven" had the twins, was the actress (Catherine Hicks, I believe) pregnant at the time?
phoebe7165 07-07-2007, 12:29 PM Jane Leeves - Frasier(her 1st pregnancy, the writers came up with a very unfunny plot that had Daphne gain all this weight, thus here comes all the fat jokes. Then for her 2nd pregnancy, Daphne simply got pregnant)
Not written in -
Leah Remini - King of Queens
Sarah Jessica Parker - Sex & the City
Heather Locklear - Melrose Place
Written in -
Laurie Metcalf - Roseanne
Cynthia Nixon - Sex & the City
Roseanne
ChanandMon 07-09-2007, 05:10 PM Courteney Cox on Friends, it was very obvious.
Heidi Dawn 07-09-2007, 06:31 PM When the pilot episode of Bewitched was filmed, Elizabeth Montgomery had given birth to her first son (William Jr.?) just a few weeks before that. She had her pregnancies with Robert & Rebecca written into the show.
Markie Post on Night Court was pregnant with her second daughter and it was written into the script.
On Dallas, Priscilla Presley's pregnancy was written into the show, Charlene Tilton's was also, but her character had an abortion. Sheree J. Wilson and Morgan Brittany had their pregnancies hidden.
Cybill Shepard was pregnant with twins and it was written into Moonlighting.
Jane Seymour was also pregnant with twins and it was also written into Dr. Quinn.
andress_jade 07-12-2007, 08:16 PM I remember a few more.
Pregnancies that were hidden:
Sally Field-The Flying Nun
Mary Beth Evans-Days of our Lives
Krista Allen-Days of our Lives
Kristian Alfonso-Days of our Lives
Alison Sweeney-Days of our Lives
Pregnancies that were shown onscreen:
Debbe Dunning-Home Improvement
andress_jade 09-20-2008, 06:49 PM I know someone mentioned Jane Seymour already but it kind of made me wonder something. She was pregnant with twins in real life and wrote the pregnancy in at least for part of the fourth season. The last half or so of that season she was wearing a pregnancy pad because she had already had her twins. When her character had her baby onscreen, they had her be a girl. I wonder why they decided to make Katie a girl instead of a boy because Jane's twins were boys. Just makes me wonder that's all. I am glad Katie was a girl though. I wonder how different it would have been if she would have been a boy.
Jane was glad to finally have her character have Katie, she had been "pregnant" forever. Pregnant for real with her twins, and then "pregnant" with Katie. Ugh. What a trooper. LOL. :)
The funny thing is though is that the baby who played Katie were actually triplets. It's kind of funny. Her character gave birth to one baby but was played by three. So in a way she "gave birth" to quints. Her twins and the triplet girls who played Katie. LOL.
I have heard similar stories from other actress who had their pregnancies written in to the show. I don't think I could do it.
repeatshistory 09-20-2008, 07:11 PM Gates McFadden was pregnant one season on STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION.
By the way, just for the record, in case there are people out here that actually know me and my history: The above pregnancy was in NO WAY my fault!
repeatshistory 09-20-2008, 07:13 PM Also, how about Sybil Shepard during Moonlighting? Definitely written into the show, but mostly covered up first.
Schmoopie 09-21-2008, 12:03 AM Elaine Benes was already mentioned but also Traylor Howard of Monk was pregnant and they did a pretty good job of hiding it. They didn't use her very much in this particular episode, but they had her carrying a big "heavy" box most of the time and standing behind the kitchen island.
Andress_jade mentioned several from DOOL, but I wanted to add Melissa Reeves to the list. They wrote her pregnancy into the storyline, which actually seemed to be the perfect time since Jack and Jennifer hadn't been married for too long.
Andrea
ThomasE 09-21-2008, 12:17 AM Josie Bisset was pregnant during the final episodes of Melrose Place and then her character 'Jane' became pregnant towards then end.
Indy788 09-21-2008, 10:40 AM Ann Morgan Guilbert was pregnant during season 1 of the Dick Van Dyke Show and there was no mention of it in the series.
tv star collector 09-21-2008, 03:49 PM In one of television's oddest coincidences, Jean Vander Pyl (the voice of
Wilma Flintstone) was pregnant during the recording of the episode in
which Wilma tells Fred that they are going to have a baby. When producer Joe Barbera found out that Jean was pregnant, he said, "Well, you didn't have to go that far, Jean. I know you want realism, but this is ridiculous!" At the taping of the episode, Jean remembered it as a special show for her and Alan Reed (Fred): "I had a lump in my throat and I looked at Alan and we both welled up with tears." As if it were scripted, Jean's son Roger was born on the same day that ABC aired the birth of Pebbles on The Flintstones.
mrsmatthewperry 10-14-2008, 08:55 PM Lucille Ball was pregnant on I Love Lucy
Courteney Cox was pregnant durning the final season of Friends but it was hidden
Debra Messing was pregnant and it was hidden poorly on the show lol
megamanj2004 10-24-2008, 01:34 PM Dana Plato (Diff'rent Strokes) - when she got pregnant, her pregnancy was written off as saying she went to Paris.
Markie Post on Night Court was pregnant with her second daughter and it was written into the script.
Yep, I remember that they would often hid her behind the desk during that time on Night Court.
IGNTBone 10-25-2008, 10:12 PM Connie Sellica on Greatest American Hero was pregnant in the first season. They were able to work around it, but when she was close to being due, they wrote her as being out of town for court cases.
MrRetro_08 10-26-2008, 09:36 AM Janet Hubert Whitten - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Courteney Cox - Friends

What a sweet story!! :D
USATVFAN 09-17-2012, 07:30 PM Just about every single Actress on TV (Comedy or Drama) during the 1990's was Pregnant and had a child sometime during the show run that they were on

That's a completely inaccurate statement on a thread that hasn't been posted on in three years

I didn't say it was true or accurate but it seem like it! Almost every sitcom actress from 19990-2000 it seem like had a child during the 90's at one point while on a TV Show. I can list 10-20 Actresses from that period who were Pregnant. Even in all of other TV Dayparts.

ThomasE 09-19-2012, 01:55 AM Lisa Bonet - A Different World and then The Cosby Show. She carried her baby while she worked on both of these shows during 1988 but it was hidden/covered. She left Cosby to have the baby and then came back the next year.
Terri Ivens (Simone Torres) of All My Children was pregnant in 2005 or 2006 She was filmed above the waist. One of my friends was asking me "Is Simone pregnant?" LOL.
Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) of All My Children was pregnant in 1979 and it was covered up.

Producers have come up with all sorts of ways to conceal a real-life pregnancy (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=280713), from computer graphics to using body doubles.

Fontaine 06-06-2014, 09:15 PM As The World Turns had a strange situation when THREE of their leading ladies became pregnant a the same time. In a unique solution, the show had arch-villain James Stenbeck kidnap the women one by one, and not return them until they had given birth in real life.

I agree with Catlover, that's it's sweet, but it's also funny.
Anyway, I remember hearing that Roma Downey was pregnant during her time on "Touched By An Angel," and they simply covered it up.
