Apparently it will still be TBS as far as the national feed is concerned. It looks like the new format is for local viewers only.

October 1 and it's just for the Atlanta area viewers. The TBS national feed will be available to cable and satellite subscribers in the Metro Atlanta area.

The new call-letters will be WPCH.

The rest of the country's not affected by the change.

That's basically what I said although not in so many words.

Since 1979 IIRC. Believe the previous calls were WTCG

Here's some news I just read on Wikipedia that I wasn't aware of before. For more than 25 years TBS has been available in Canada. (Yes, we get TBS in Canada. I hate Ted Turner and the Braves as much as you do.) The company responsible for suppyling the TBS feed across Canada has made sure that we receive the local feed instead of the national feed. So that means that, as of Oct. 1, not only will the new format be for local Atlanta viewers, Canada will get it too.

Thanks, Ted. You're all heart.

Wikipedia entry:

In Canada, Shaw Broadcast Services (the primary supplier of TBS in Canada) carries the local Atlanta feed and not the SuperStation feed as seen on cable in the United States. As a result most Cable/Satellite companies carry the local feed. The reasons for this is unclear, however many speculate that it's because the local feed offers more Atlanta Braves games than the national feed. It is unknown whether or not these Canadian systems will keep the station as Peachtree TV, switch to TBS, or even drop the channel entirely, after October 2007. There are however some cable systems that get TBS from C-Band and thus have the National feed as seen on Cable in the United States.

I really hate this!!!

Does that mean no more Saved by the Bell and Diff'rent Strokes at 2:30 Eastern time? I live in Canada also and really don't like the sound of this peachtree thing... why aren't we allowed the national feed as well or instead of?

This is kind of sad, actually. I am a former resident of Atlanta and other parts of Georgia and it seems that we're losing a bit of history here. Darn you, Time Warner!

If you get WTBS-17 then you should get Peachtree TV when the switch happens and you will get the 45 games that they will broadcast.

I heard somewhere and I don't know how trustworthy this is, but if you are in the broadcast area for the Braves, you will get the 45 games on WTBS. I'm not sure if it's still true and I'm also not sure how far that stretches. I think a few months ago someone had given me a link that showed what states/areas were covered. Things change, so I don't know what's true anymore.

The superstation concept is obsolete, plus they have to charge high prices to local advertisers who do not need a national audience

The 45 Braves WPCH games will be avaliable in the Braves regional territory which is Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of North Carolina.

However, we don't know if they will sell the games to local stations, or make them avaliable though an alternate channel or one of the Braves regional sports networks.

This is just so weird. I can just imagine now how cheesy and blah the new graphics will be.

But from what I am reading...it doesn`t seem for sure that Canada is getting it. I am reading it as it is still unsure. Anyone else?

The Atlanta Market Area has never received the TBS Superstation Feed. It has always been a slightly different WTBS local feed. Now with WPCH it will be totally different from TBS. It will become a truly local station.

I really hope that they send the national TBS up to Canada...I won`t be happy with Peachtree TV!

I bet we will have to contact our cable provider in Canada and demand TBS not Peachtree!

Nowadays from what I've noticed it's the same thing as the national logo, with the exception of them putting "wtbs tv-dt atlanta" in lowercase on the bottom of the screen every hour or so.

It is my understanding that the TBS17 logo is now the same as the regular TBS logo, with the possible exception of WTBS-TV 17 Atlanta or similar flashing on the screen every once in a while.
