View Full Version : Shows that had a sibling disappear for no reason
noveel 06-28-2007, 04:52 AM Happy Days
Family Matters
Step By Step(this show also had another sibling age a few years between seasons)
The producers must think the viewers are stupid.
DVDFreaker 06-28-2007, 07:30 AM Married with Children (The little boy that showed up for no reason and then disappeared for no reason, very stupid and pointless)
comedyfreak 06-28-2007, 08:36 AM Lori Foreman on that 70's Show, she was replaced and disappeared without reason.
catlover79 06-28-2007, 09:34 AM I think there was also a child who disappeared from Bonnie Hunt's program Life With Bonnie. On Step by Step, the youngest, Brendan, vanished from the show with no explanation.

Also on That 70's Show Donna had a younger sister who appeared on one episode early in the first season and was never seen or mentioned again. Also, Donna apparently had an older sister who was "away at College" once, but she never made an appearence.
catlover79 06-28-2007, 09:48 AM There was also a third daughter on Empty Nest, in addition to Carol and Barbara. Emily was never seen (away at college when mentioned), until Kristy McNichol left EN for health reasons. Then Emily was finally seen, played by Lisa Rieffel (who also played Leah Remini's sister on King of Queens).
Alas, Barbara was written out of the show for good (although Kristy McNichol did come back for the series finale), and so was Emily. The focus shifted to the new clinic, and Marsha Warfield and Estelle Getty joined the cast as regulars. I don't think Emily was ever mentioned again!!
treky 06-29-2007, 02:04 AM THE COSBY SHOW-the Huxtables had another daughter in the pilot; then she dissapeared with no explanation.
THE KING OF QUEENS-Carries sister also moved in with Doug and Carrie in the pilot; then also dissapeared with no explanation.
MASH-in 2 of the early episodes; Hawkeye mentions his sister. Then she also disapears with no explanation given.
PrettyinPink55 06-29-2007, 02:09 AM Boy Meets World-- Morgan (Cory and Eric's younger sister) disappeared for a couple of seasons only to re-emerge as a new actress a few years older!
They made a joke about her disappearance on an episode once. I think Cory asks her where she's been all this time, and she says she had been in her room or something like that. :)
Ohio8 06-29-2007, 06:14 PM The one boy on The Torklesons was gone when it became Almost Home.
The youngest girl on Family Matters.

One of the girls from The Torkelsons was missing when it changed to Almost Home as well. The woman went from having 5 kids to 3 with no explanation. Whatever happened to Connie Ray, anyway??

What daughter was that on the cosby show? I don't remember.
Furienna 06-30-2007, 07:37 PM No, "The Cosby Show" did the opposite. They suddenly added a daughter, Sondra. In the pilot, Claire says "Cliff, why did we have four children?" Cliff answers "Because we didn't want five." But surprise, surprise, Sondra comes home from college, and they have five children anyway.
treky 06-30-2007, 10:26 PM in the first episode of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW; the Petries neighbors were named Fred & Dottie and they had a teenage daughter named Janey.

That was no loss. That character was annoying.

Wasn't one of her kids the kid that played Minkus on BMW...who also disappeared. lol
I think on the bus ride to Seattle? they lost a couple, but didn't stop to let them back on. lol Man, I can't remember who did survive beside Dorothy.

Yes, Lee Norris was both a Torkelson and Minkus (who was dropped after the first season of BMW). He was one of the three kids to appear on both shows.
I loved the old Torkelson house, btw. I seem to remember the exterior shots of the house being used on other shows.

Probably so. I don't know how many times I've seen the Stephens' house used. They even used it on I Dream of Jeannie.
PlayOn 07-01-2007, 01:17 AM On Mama's Family, when it was on the Carol Burnett show, Mama had Phil, Eunice, Ellen and Vint. When it got its own show, they dropped Phil and it was just Eunice, Ellen and Vint. And sometimes, Mama got the birth order of her children wrong. lol.
And, if this, counts: Vints kids, Buzz and Sonya were on the show. Then they vanished with no mention.
blue4t 07-02-2007, 06:01 PM Grounded For Life: The final season, Henry was no longer present. I think he was still recognized as one of their children, he just didn't appear in any scenes.
catlover79 07-02-2007, 06:32 PM If the show is produced by Miller/Boyett and airs on ABC, you can BET that a sibling will mysteriously vanish and never be mentioned again (Happy Days, Family Matters, Step by Step).
Furienna 07-02-2007, 06:47 PM That's an interesting observation, catlover79.

I think they invented the disappearing sibling, who invented the fast aging sibling that turns from a baby into a 5yr old?
Furienna 07-03-2007, 09:10 AM Ah, that might have been someone else. Which was the first show, who had this phenomenon?

The probably got that idea from the soaps. There is even a term for it: SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome).
