Family Ties - Visit The Keatons Again This Fall: Season 2 Release Date, Extras & Box
October 9th Street Date Announced
Posted by David Lambert

Steve and Elyse Keaton (Michael Gross and Meredith Baxter-Birney) once 1960s radicals now find themselves in Reagan-Era American trying to raise a traditional suburban family. Son Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox) is an ambitious Young Republican and his sister Mallory (Justine Bateman) is a shallow victim of the corporate culture obsessed with music, clothes and boys. Their only normal kid is young Jennifer (Tina Yothers) a bit of a tomboy.

Family Ties - The 2nd Season will be on dvd this October 9th, per this morning's announcement by CBS/Paramount. During this season's 23 episodes you'll see guest stars like Judith Light, David Faustino, Crispin Glover, Gail Strickland, Jami Gertz, Daphne Zuniga, and Nancy Parsons. The extras on this set will consist of "Episodic Promos."

Great news, and a BIT of a step-up from season one's DVD. I must admit that when I saw the headline for the news story including something about "extras," I flipped thinking that PHE was finally going to include some quality bonus features on the FAMILY TIES series DVD's. But then when I saw that the extras consisted solely of "episodic promos," my level of joy kind of slipped because I was expecting fresh new commentaries by the cast and crew, and new featurettes, and so on and so forth. But still, season one had nothing for added value, so like I said, this is a step-up from the first release. PHE looks like they are making baby steps toward improvement in their barebones releases. Now release more TAXI and CHEERS seasons with extras and I'll be happy. And when it comes to the extras front, how about letting Paul Brownstein have a crack at a few more of your shows like you did with the short-lived POLICE SQUAD!. Still, the cover looks great and it will be cool to see some vintage promos for the classic series.

I can't wait! I was afraid they weren't going to release season 2. I thought maybe the sales for season 1 weren't very good but this is great news! :woohoo:

This is so awesome! I am definitely going to pick up the boxset. At this rate, we'll probably be seeing seasons three and four sometime next year! I can hardly wait for those seasons to come out!

TVshowsondvd is also reporting that Michael J. Fox will be part of the extras on the DVD.:D I am assuming an interview with him about the season or maybe some commentating on some eppys.:D

As Dave put it, my mouth is watering over those newly announced extras! According to TSoD, there is only going to be 22 episodes on this set, as opposed to 23 which was the original episode count. Here's the link where you can find all of the newly revealed information.

I love how Alex has his arm around Mallory! He sure loves his sister - not in that way, of course. :)

:) Yep, it's strange though the way the situation works out. I don't think I've ever seen a DVD series go from barebones in the first season to having extras in subsequent seasons. Anybody here ever see that?

Why dont they add more stuff like Bloopers,Outtakes,Commentaires things like that?I mean its not like they do this everyday finally releasing this on DVD and it should be special get the cast for a reunion!

That would be nice except there will never be a FT reunion.

Well,i really didn't say i wanted a reunion just to add more bonus features on the dvd like Bloopers,Outtakes, and maybe Commentary by some of the actors or writers and Directors!

Well, as far as any special features go, I guess its nice just to have ANY at all. I am very very happy to see the 2nd season is getting released, I hope the remaining seasons do.

That's cool. :D I'm happy that there will be special features. It's a shame that the episodes will be edited because of the music, but what matters is that it's on dvd. :)

It mentions that some episodes might be edited from their original network version. Does anyone know if the episodes will be edited more than the episodes in Season 1? I hope not. Are most of the episodes 23 to 24 minutes on the dvd? I hope they won't be shorter than that.

I worry about what will happen, when they get to Season Five. Would they edit Born to Be Wild and Light My Fire from My Name Is Alex? I'm still looking forward to the DVD releases nonetheless. I hope they release the bloopers with Season Three.

Michael J. Fox isn't the only one interviewed. Creator/Executive Producer Gary David Goldberg, Michael Gross, Michael J. Fox, Tina Yothers and Marc Price are in the special features. Unfortunately, there is only a brief clip or two of interviews with Meredith Baxter and Justine Bateman from 1983.

Most of the episodes look to be unedited. They are all around 23 1/2 to 24 minutes in length. There are only two episodes at first glance that seem like they could have a scene edited or music substituted..
