View Full Version : Kelly Clarkson reveals battle with bulimia
Brian Damage 06-23-2007, 09:48 PM Kelly Clarkson makes no bones about not wanting to be a part of skinny Hollywood.
However, the original “American Idol” has revealed a problem from her past all too common to today’s starlets.
Kelly once suffered from bulimia, she revealed in a candid interview with CosmoGirl magazine.
In the interview, Kelly said she battled the eating disorder as a freshman in high school after losing out on a part in a school musical to a skinnier, yet less talented singer.
“I thought if I came back and I was cuter and thinner — then I’ll get the role,” Kelly said. “The lesson I took from that was purely superficial, but that’s what I grew up thinking for a long time. It wasn’t smart, and I headed straight into an eating disorder and became bulimic for the next six months.”
The 25-year-old songstress said she struggled with the disease until her friends caught on and begged her to seek help.
“One of my guy friends caught on to it, and I just felt so ashamed and embarrassed,” she revealed. “I literally went cold turkey and snapped out of it.”
Now comfortable in her own skin, Kelly has no problem not fitting in to the size-zero stereotypes in Hollywood.
I’m definitely thicker than most people in the industry but not in real life. When you’re on the red carpet with people who weigh 100 pounds, hell yeah, I’m bigger than most of them,” Kelly said. “I’ve got a butt, I’m Greek — I can’t help that. And I think it’s good for people to see normal. I love food far too much!”

I have an answer for that, but her name has gotten too much pub as it is lately. ;)
Ireneparalegal 06-23-2007, 10:50 PM ^^^^^^ So true. But wait, she gets out Monday, she just might reveal something we don't know.
catlover79 06-23-2007, 10:55 PM I can sympathize, as I have struggled with anorexia problems for several years now. For now, I'm OK and eating regularly, but sometimes it is still a struggle. My heart goes out to those who have eating problems, it can be a total nightmare. ohno:
Yes, i feel for anyone who has had to struggle with something terrible in thier lives, but since I am a cynical bastard, I'll say it again...
Why do celebs always reveal these heartbreaking stories about themselves the same week they have an album/movie/TV show/book coming out?
;)
catlover79 06-23-2007, 11:03 PM Well, rest assured that I do not have a book/TV show/movie/record deal on the horizon. Hope that cheers everyone here up!!
Dr. Thong 06-26-2007, 07:07 PM Personally, I can't imagine why anyone would find a young woman with the body of a 12 year old boy appealing. Nothing wrong with a little meat on the bones. That's real. Now, some people are naturally skinny - definitely not me, that's for sure - but to induce yourself into an unnatural state to look appealing is not right.
And I'm not dismissing anyone with an eating disorder - I can't even imagine what that's like. Kelly looks fine to me these days - it's too bad she's getting a backlash for asserting herself as an artist.

That is true. Here's an article from the L.A. Times that talks about that.

Buffyboy323 06-26-2007, 09:00 PM Her career is somewhat hurting, so all of a sudden she feels the need to spill the beans on her eating disorder???...Someone's trying her very best to keep her face in the headlines...
Ireneparalegal 06-26-2007, 09:13 PM I was diagnosed with an eating disorder when I was 17....ok, now I feel better for saying that. Although, it was not an image problem, it was a whole different issue.
Seriously, I did have that problem. As for these celebs, what is the point abt revealing it? DO SOMETHING POSITIVE WITH THAT FACT. Go to schools and talk with young girls, don't allow pics to be airbrushed, speak up and talk abt how the industry is a farce for allowing such things to occur and making young girls believe that they are not beautiful as they are.

I'm glad someone finally made a post like this. Cut the crap, keep it real about a very serious issue among young girls today. I couldn't agree more, and I'm thankful there are people out there who feel the same as me.
