This is by far the best rant you've done yet. Great job! I can't believe Comcast is actually sinking so low as to get rid of basic cable altogether. Who really wants to pay that much for cable each month? I've had comcast for over 2 years now, and when I first got, I was impressed with the service, but lately, it's just getting bad. I'm in the midst of chagning over to WOW right now.

Great rants as always Solomon. I don't get the NBC programs On-Demand for some reason. It was up there for about a week and I did see it say that it was 99 cents which is ridiculous. Now my CBS On-Demand is free. It states it right up at the top. I use it quite a lot to watch Jericho and NCIS. I didn't know that they were going to drop basic cable. That is just wrong. Not everybody wants digital or can afford digital. I only watch certain channels on it. Quite a lot of what's on it is nothing but junk.

a great rant about an all too common problem

ALL of the big cable/dish companies are too greedy - and the worst part is that when you THINK that you have some choice, they get you to switch companies with the lure of lower prices then 3 to 6 months later they start jacking the prices up on you to ridiculous levels

I have Time Warner digital cable with the full phone-cable-internet package, and I am tired of them dropping channels from my service, raising my rates every couple of months and then being forced to watch their ads to lure in new customers for the SAME services I am getting for about $130 a month LESS than what they are charging ME

And I called Comcast about their triple play package-Phone/internet/phone) for $99.00 and Only to ind out it's really $225 a month because the cable part is $157

I don't get Comcast, but basically this rant covers any cable service provider you may have.

I feel so sorry for our elderly customers who are on a fixed income and are having their services cut down so that certain channels can be transferred to "digital" service. I remember here in our county when Turner Classic Channel was transferred over to digital, the elderly customers of our community ranted and made phone calls galore to the cable provider and demanded that channel be restored to the basic line-up. Well, the wheel that squeaks the loudest gets the oil. So what our cable provider did was put TCM channel on both basic and digital tier services. This way the older customers didn't have to "upgrade" their boxes; also, they didn't have to pay for a different (more expensive) package to receive that channel. That is an example of how when people complain and let their voices be heard, something can be done.

Good Job Solomon.

Good rant Solomon and right on target. My Comcrap bill is through the roof. About four years ago, I was paying $115, and now it's $155. That includes internet service too. That company makes me sick. :thumbsdow

I don't even know. We've had Comcrap for years, and as much as I hate the company, I do like what I'm overpaying for.

Is Solomon's claim that Comcast is dropping basic cable even accurate? I told someone this and she countered that FCC regulations are such that basic cable level must be made available. Of course, this isns't supposed to happen until next year, according to Solomon, and by then we'd forget all this by then...

She doesn't have a DVD player and then would have to learn how to use it which would be to much for her

Well they probably figure that not many people have just basic cable anyway and should just make everything digital.

This rant should be forwarded to comcast, but when you think about it that CEO needs the increases to pay for his salary and bonuses.

First of all, Comcast should refund anyone money who paid for repeats of a network tv show. You guys weren't informed until after you got your bill (how slick!). I'm fairly certain Comcast knew a bunch of people wouldn't pay $1 for a show they can wait to watch again for free on network tv. Personally, I'd complain and then I'd complain some more. Nothing might happen but, you'd get to vent some frustrations at out.

Comcast, DirectTV, etc is all getting out of hand. I honestly wonder what all these companies would do if people boycotted them for just a month. I think they'd be forced to listen to the people they so readily rip off. Just a thought. DirectTV is really no better. Mine is forever going out (supposedly due to sunspots, light breeze, etc) at the most annoying moments and they're jacking up the prices as well. I firmly believe these companies know that cable is a luxury item and some people enjoy it. If there's anything that brings someone a bit of happiness, companies will find a way to charge us and then charge us some more. It's the whole you-don't-have-to-have-it-so-you-will-pay-through-the-nose-for-it mentality.

These NBC eps of the Office can't be from this season can they? I would hope not if they can be seen on summer reruns

Well Solomon, I just found out I can't get the NFL Network on my digital package this year. They've switched it to a sports package that I don't have. That and ESPN News is about the only good thing on Digital cable. I read some articles and they say it's unfair to charge customers all that money for the NFL network because they might not want it...well what about all those MTV channels I don't want? I'll be DAMNED if I'm paying more just for about 8 additional games.

Yeah they included the NFL NETWORK in the $5.00 Sports Package on June 1st because......................................................Comcast was not making any money off the Sports Package so they have to come up with another creative way to TAKE more money from customers. And they knew by including the NFL network in the package would forced people to buy the Sports Package because there are a lot of NFL fans. Expect the Sports Package to be $6.50 this time next year

Their's probably a reason for that...it's junk. The only pro-sports I'm interested in is the NFL and I only watch that channel up to the SB. Half the year I don't even pay attention to it.

 I might have to drop some movie channels if I do. I have a lot of them. I just think it's pretty bad that they're taking advantage of NFL fans like this. The reason I have digital is so I can get these type of channels.

They did the same thing with NBATV, thats apart of the Sports Tier Now-lol And that just proves that no sports fan purchased that package

and see I'm not interested in the NBA so why should I have to pay for that just to get the NFL? Let them just charge the 70 cents extra the NFL was charging them.

The CBS shows have always been free on my Comcast. I would be very surprised if they would charge anyone for programs and not put any button that you have to push before purchasing something.

I don't put all of the blame on Comcast for the NFL Network deal. The NFL was basically forcing cable companies to carry it on their regular digital packages, and I think this is one of the highest priced channels to cable companies. I don't think I'd pay for it for just the 1 extra game per week late in the regular season.

I'm debating on that. I do watch some of the exhibition games and a lot of the pre-game shows during the week. Of course I can get a lot of the pre-shows on ESPN anyway. I'll have to see if the Cowboys play on any NFL network games this year before I decide.
