to all my friends on the boards at my favorite site,

i am in the hospital for some dreaded and very scary back surgery for a
herniated lumbar disc pressing on my entire right leg nerve root....i postponed this till i was unable to walk starting last monday.

to my shock there is very primative internet access attached to the pull
over tv....so i am writing this from bed and keeping up with the small but
sweet family of sitcom regular posters.....so hello pav, irene, soloman and all the rest, any feedback and well wishes would certainly brighten my days and nights.

i can only respond to posts since i have no access to my email addresses.

OMG sweetie. I am sorry to hear this. When, how, did this all happen? I won't go into details but I am the back injury queen around these parts. :happyface I had a spinal fusion on my L-4 & L-5 disc. Never been the same. I had bone grafted from my hip. My surgery was done anteriorally (through my lower pelvic area).

Was this sudden for you? Tell me the details if you can.

I will be thinking of you and praying that all works out for you. I know the pain you are in and I can totally sympathize.

I am here for ya my friend. Stay strong. :bighug:

leave it to my favorite pal of all, sweet irene to respond first......

on a funny lighter side the hospital keyboard is touch the screen strokes,
so typing a simple paragraph takes very very long, but it works to my
amazement.

as you personally know, it has been quite a rough year for me, not to mention the ion alice cancellation....lol

the l5 disc pressing on s1 started in feb out of nowhere....i had a good
pain management dr but all of a sudden last monday, unbearable severe
pain took over and all meds stopped working and i stopped walking.

i am of course very nervous regarding a planned tuesday surgery, but i really believe my options have run out......thanks for sharing, how r u day 2 day and don't worry be totally honest.....

at least i have a self controlled morphene drip button, it's like being on family feud.

I got the feeling that you would be on morphine drip. ;) Relax, enjoy and take it easy. I am sure the keyboard you are using plus the morphine is probably mind-boggling. Sorry to hear that your pain management didn't help.

I know too well abt that also. Therapy, massages, swimming pools & water exercises, several injections, etc. I have done it all. I sure do hope the surgery works for you and eases your pain. There is nothing like trying to walk and dealing with that stupid pain that just makes you grimace.

That sucks TeeVee - sorry to hear about your back. There's nothing worse than chronic back pain and compressed disks, etc.. Hopefully the surgery will help relieve it and you'll be back up and around in no time.

Cool that the hospital has a connection. That would really help. Those tiny t.v.s with the ear jack suck!

Hang in there and hopefully we can keep you company. Some posts might be quite interesting while you're on pain medication! ;)

I never knew the hospitals had such a hook-up for laptops. Then again, the last time I was in the hospital, the last thing I wanted to do was sit up and do anything.

I hope you get back to us soon my friend and let us know how you are doing. Keep in touch. :D

THANKFULLY the last time I had to stay in a hospital for any length of time the internet wasn't even invented. Neither were fax machines for that matter.

And YESSSS - the wheel had been invented then. ;)

The last time I was in the hospital was when I gave birth to my son. I was there for Thanksgiving. My family brought me LOTS OF FOOD from Thanksgiving dinner at home. That hospital food was horrible. :puke:

That reminds me of a time my mother was in the hospital over Christmas. It was for TB. She was on a regular diet, but for some reason, some bonehead in the kitchen must have mixed her Christmas dinner up with somebody else's and her turkey had been pureed. Was the grossest thing I've ever seen.
I had to run some homecooked dinner up to her after we ate.

Hopefully you can order a pizza or something for yourself. I've done that one before. ;)

so many kind wishes from so many friends old and new, this site has been a
regular part of life and i read just about everypost whether i agree or not
about whatever topic is being discussed, so it brings me such solice to
still be connecting with everyone during my hospital stay.

as for how i got in this situation....i just woke up a few months ago with calf pain which eventually worsened each morning...a herniated l 5 disc
pressing on my s1 nerve root was the diagnosis a month later, surgery was
suggested but i was told this problem and pain could eventually disappear
as suddenly as it appeared, so i went into pain management, a fancy term
for keeping one's self on pills, etc.

life was terribilly changed, everyone i met shared war stories, but i managed
to continue working in my tv industry job that i have held for 27 years, i'm
44 btw.

suddenly last wednesday, i froze with pain and couldn't walk, so i screamed
for the surgeon and hospital and here i lie for the 5th day waiting for the
now scheduled operation this tuesday.

i am on morphine drip which is helping the pain slightly, i can't stand or walk for more than 30 sec. intervals.....

this touch screen key pad is very primative but it is keeping me in touch
with all of you, again thanks for the thoughts as i wait for the next pav blog
and soloman rant....at least things remain the same at sitcoms online.

i'll be in touch again

I'm sorry to hear about your medical problems. I've been in hell all year with neck and back pain. I'm most likely facing surgery myself.

My husband had spinal fusion surgery in his lower back for a ruptured disc, almost two years ago. It fixed him right up. He's never had to take a pain pill since.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

I am hoping you are doing ok. Just checking in on you.

How fragile our bodies are and when it comes to pain that seems to come out of nowhere or for no logical reason is the worst. I simply bent over at my work desk to reach for a file in my filing cabinet and this excruciating pain in my back just appeared. I wanted to scream. My doctor advised me that anything so simple can cause a herniated disc. Some people have sneezed real hard or coughed real hard (and even pushed too hard, if you know what I mean...bathroom stuff) and caused a disc to be herniated.

My disc eventually ruptured six months after my initially injury and it was terrible.

I hope all goes well for you and your surgery comes out successful. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I just want to say a very special thank you to all who responded to this thread while I was in the hospital getting disc back surgery, with some complications I spent a total of one week and have been home now about a week. I will be starting physical therapy and soon will be completely on the mend. I just wanted to give a quick update since I hadn't posted since before my surgery. again thanks to everyone for their well wishes!
