I've been reading what Lee has been saying and I have to agree... to a degree. I have a compilation disc someone gave to me with random eps on it (funny stuff, great writing!) so I thought Season One would be a safe buy with DVD PLanets 20% off sale... it wasn't. The show feels VERY antiquated and Buddy and Sally are totally grating to me.

I do know Season one of the Andy Griffith Show comes off similiarly; it has thick accents and in the end seems like an ENTIRELY different show by season 4 or 5.

I like Rob and Laura; I HATE the kid (hiding in closets is dumb and his acting is worse) and Sally and Buddy (I think this is the writing team) are simply NOT funny and I agree with Lee she is totally unattractive and her constant jokes about "getting a man" are bad and made worse by the fact that the way they are written you'd think she is a bombshell.

Although season 1 has some great moments, I think that the show does get better as the years go by. My favorite seasons are 3 and 4.

I think with season one they were still trying to figure out a direction for the show. I noticed that four season one eps start with a scene in the beginning before the opening titles. And about halfway thru the season, they shortened the opening credits. Starting with season two, there is the more familiar opening credit sequences and the show fell more into a formula. If you can overlook the shows flaws and be tolerant of Buddy and Sally, this is a decent old show and good to own on DVD.

In the first season of TDVDS the original intent was to have more of the action in the office and little at home. Mary Tyler Moore's part was originally small. After the episode in season one, My Favorite Blonde Brunette, the direction changed to have more home life involved since it was shown that Mary Tyler Moore can do comedy. Her and DVD was great together in their scenes. That was the cause of the friction between her and Rose Marie because Rose originally was to be the leading actress but Mary end up unofficially the leading actress but the billing in the show that she was last introduced as, "and Mary Tyler Moore." The first season was great but the first few episodes they were not sure where the show would go plus it was not a ratings bonaza at first.

I agree-the show was just OK that first season; not good but not bad either.

And the episode you mentioned was called "MY BLONDE HAIRED BRUNNETE".
