View Full Version : Please sign online petition to bring back UM!
crystaldawn 06-19-2007, 02:27 PM Well I decided to make an online petition to bring back UM. I directed it to Lifetime as they are the only ones currently with the rights to air UM. Hopefully we will get a ton of signatures on it and then can forward it on to Lifetime so they will know how many people would love to see UM again. Here is the link:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/unsolvedmysteries/ (9/13 PETITION HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED. THANK YOU!)
mozartpc27 06-19-2007, 03:06 PM I signed it, with this message:
"Unsolved Mysteries is the only reason I ever watch anything on your network, and I'll bet there are a bunch of men out there who would second that."
LooksLikeCRicci 06-19-2007, 09:17 PM Ooh.. groovy. Count me in. :)
wiseguy182 06-20-2007, 03:09 AM Good idea CD, I signed it.
Comment #14 is mine. #13 made me laugh, and I've got a feeling I know who typed that one. :D
Big3sCompanyFan 06-20-2007, 03:23 AM I think we're dead because there's only 15 signatures and successful petitions require at least 10,000 signatures!!
Just register a bunch of fake e-mail addresses and sign it as different people! LOL!!

You make me laugh

That petition needs more attention. Chances are, a lot of UM fans (including those who are disgruntled about Lifetime's exclusion of the show) are unaware this petition exists. So if this petition is brought to the attention of more people, it will likely result in more signatures.
Those who wish to sign the petition and post comments along with their signature should keep their comments brief and to the point. And remember to be civil; overemotional comments and rants are counterproductive. Attack issues, not people.
It is also extremely important to sign your full name. It looks far more legitimate than signatures consisting only of initials, a nickname, or a partial name (i.e., first, middle, or last name only).

There are a lot of lurkers here, so I think this forum can produce a fair amount of signatures. It's still relatively early also.

"Lurkers" sounds soooooooooooooo creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppppppyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
ididn'tdoit 06-20-2007, 03:18 PM "Lurkers" sounds soooooooooooooo creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppppppyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
DA DA DA DA DA DA DA, DA DA DA DA DA DA DA!!
phillipscurve 06-20-2007, 09:31 PM I have also signed the petition. I think, with the help of the lurkers, this petition could be a success.
wiseguy182 06-21-2007, 01:24 AM yikes and gadzooks! treeman left a pretty deregotary comment about justin on that link.
LooksLikeCRicci 06-21-2007, 03:06 AM yikes and gadzooks! treeman left a pretty deregotary comment about justin on that link.
...tricycle? I don't get it....
crystaldawn 06-21-2007, 08:46 AM Well I think its pretty tacky and immature of treeman to use an online petition to take a jab at Justin. If he has a problem with him, he should deal with it privately.
I'll send you a PM
Tricycle, I don't get it either!
ididn'tdoit 06-21-2007, 04:18 PM JPenn80 made a video on a certain website promoting this petition. Pretty neat :)
dynoguy88 06-21-2007, 04:54 PM Talk about quick. I put that video up just 20 minutes ago and already 50 people have viewed it. Sheesh!
crystaldawn 06-21-2007, 04:56 PM Talk about quick. I put that video up just 20 minutes ago and already 50 people have viewed it. Sheesh!
Yes in the last 30 minutes 9 more people have signed the petition. :)
wiseguy182 06-22-2007, 05:36 AM Even though it's on the "bad site", it was a great idea. I finally watched some of them on there last week and I noticed some videos had several thousand views. So I think we could easily get to the 10,000 signatures, if that's what it takes, no problemo.
LooksLikeCRicci 06-23-2007, 02:25 AM Wow... look at the number of signatures rising... I'm not going to divulge what comment was mine, but lets just say I was in the Top 15. I'm so happy to see that "the bad site" is helping to get the word out. I"ll have to check out Dynoguy's ad... :)
SP4CE INV4DERZ 06-23-2007, 04:26 AM #122
Why is Treeman clinging to a reference about a tricycle in an old post for anyways?
dynoguy88 06-23-2007, 09:34 AM check out bible code's lame comment (#113).
I know. And he/she mentions me yet again.
Should I consider myself blessed that bible code has no ill feeling towards me?

Yes I know, I am so glad that he/she has no hard feelings towards SO because I was really losing sleep worrying about that.
ididn'tdoit 06-24-2007, 10:03 AM Comment #164 by "Danny" was really uncalled for
justins5256 06-24-2007, 07:49 PM #122

Because he chooses not to deal with his "issues" with me in private, so he resorts to mudslinging instead.
To be perfectly honest, this is actually quite humorous to me because I didn't even know I had "issues" with the guy. I had forgotten about the "tricycle" comment LONG ago, as it appears most posters on here had forgotten about it as well.
crystaldawn 06-25-2007, 11:55 AM I have no idea what this Danny person meant. Awsi apparently did resign, but to my knowledge no one else left, so they're not "dropping like flies". Beetlejuice hasn't posted in a few months, but I haven't heard anything about them permanently leaving. I think the petition is imporant and beneficial, but it's starting to become a place where some occasional posters/lurkers can take jabs at board members. Perhaps these people would like to say what they're really getting at and post here on the forum, or realize that the petition was designed to bring back Unsolved Mysteries instead of mudslinging. But I think the handful of jabs at board members that are on there are inappropriate and not what the petition is all about.
I couldn't agree with you more wiseguy. From what I remember, Beetlejuice comes around and is then usually gone for months at a time so I wouldn't think twice about his absence. Awsi is gone of his own free will so whether he comes back or not is his choice and that still remains to be seen. I really wish I could edit some of these inappropriate comments on the petition. Lifetime isn't going to take it seriously if there are all these comments in there that have absolutely nothing to do with UM airing again.
On a brighter note, its up to 201. :)

very good points Kane, and I wanted to quote this because I think it's necessary at this point given some of the recent inappropriate comments on the petition.
wiseguy182 06-25-2007, 01:41 PM WHOA! Comment #195 is from Bonnie Wilder, and she says she loves the show.
The brilliant thing about that is the people at Lifetime aren't likely to get that joke, particularly since they haven't aired that segment. :)
crystaldawn 06-27-2007, 12:18 PM Well thankfully after familiarizing myself with the ipetitions site I did figure out how can I delete the signatures of the handful of people that used the petition to whine about SO and other posters and you better believe they'll be gone. I also noticed that there are some who have signed multiple times and I don't know if it was just an error on their part but I am going to get rid of the duplicate signatures as well.
LooksLikeCRicci 06-27-2007, 01:05 PM Hee hee hee... nice to see ya again, Bonnie Wilder. :)
crystaldawn 06-27-2007, 01:12 PM Hee hee hee... nice to see ya again, Bonnie Wilder. :)
Thanks and a special thanks to wiseguy for getting the picture ready for me so I could put it on my avatar. :)
GoldenGirlsFan92 06-27-2007, 09:59 PM I signed it. Hopefully Lifetime will listen.

ididn'tdoit 07-12-2007, 10:29 AM Huh, first Bonnie Wilder now Danny Wheeler has signed (#251)
crystaldawn 07-12-2007, 12:41 PM Huh, first Bonnie Wilder now Danny Wheeler has signed (#251)
Actually its #248 now as I got rid of a few duplicate signatures. You know since I started the petition I can view the email addresses and it appears that is his REAL name....maybe its the same one.....

Yikes! That's scary!
wiseguy182 07-13-2007, 01:59 AM Oh Man!, Danny Wheeler?! Someone should send him an e-mail and ask him to start posting here. Wheeler & Bean Round Two would be awesome
crystaldawn 07-13-2007, 09:35 AM Well the email address he gave was danny@wheeler.com but no suprise it turned out to be an invalid email address. I guess the search continues...
greatgarrett2 08-01-2007, 09:04 PM CD,
I signed the petition......I basically said 'Bring back UM' even tho we don't get Lifetime up here (not that I know of) but the show still deserves airtime because it's a quality show IMO. If I got Lifetime, believe me, I'd be watching it whenevere I can. here's what I wrote, I kinda paid tribute to Robert Stack as well. Hope this is alright:
Bring back UM! Too bad RS is gone......Rest In Peace Bob, there would've been no Unsolved Mysteries with you! You made the show IMO.
Cheers
greatgarrett2 08-01-2007, 09:07 PM Sorry, I signed twice by mistake because I didn't think it went through.
One signature my name is Garrett and the other, Anonamous. (sp?)
Hope that's OK?
Cheers

Thanks! No problem, I usually go in and get rid of the duplicate posts.
Hey Paul Pollis has signed the petition from prison...
oshinko roll 08-13-2007, 10:08 PM hi everyone, i am new to this forum but have been a huge UM fan for a long time. i too signed Jpenn's petition and have been eagerly awaiting the return of the show. i recently stumbled across some information on the internets (i would say where to verify this info, but there may be a rule as some have mentioned against linking to other websites, particularly video websites?) that lifetime's control over the UM episodes expires in 2008, at which point HBO will pick up the distribution rights and begin airing the old episodes with new updates. this seemed to come from a reliable source, have any of you heard this as well? is this just rumor or confirmed fact? if so, is this as a result of the petition or just serendipity? if i am allowed to post the link to this info, i will do so, just let me know.
i am so glad to find others out there as curious as i am about these old cases! thanks to all of you who have done research on what became of these mysteries.

HBO Television Distribution has acquired the distribution rights to UM, but don't interpret that as the show being picked up by the HBO channel. Only HBO's distribution unit is involved with the show. And it should be noted that a number of HBO-produced/distributed shows were not HBO-broadcast programs (including the '90s sitcom Roc, which aired on Fox).
Yes, Lifetime loses control of the show in 2008 because UM deal for Lifetime is expiring, so it will be at least ayear before the proposed revival is broadcast. The show is being proposed to other cable networks, but the Broadcasting & Cable article didn't say which channels. This is still an ongoing process, and things like this take a considerable amount of time to reach fruition, so we will have to wait patiently for any further developments.
MysterySolver (a member of this forum) said that he/she works at the UM viewer mail department, and mentioned last December that there were talks of an UM revival, although the reports weren't publicly confirmed until two months ago. So it is extremely doubtful that the petition you referred to, (which only entered the internet very recently) had any impact on the talks of an UM revival.
Character actor Clancy Brown has been named as a possible new UM host, but no deal has been reached.
robbieasbury 08-28-2007, 07:39 AM I bet if UM doesn't air on HBO it will probably air on TNT or TBS since HBO is part of Time-Warner.
PrettyinPink55 08-28-2007, 09:45 AM Signed it!!!
I bet if UM doesn't air on HBO it will probably air on TNT or TBS since HBO is part of Time-Warner.
TNT was among several cable networks that were interested in acquiring the show when plans for a revival were underway seven years ago. It was mentioned in a March 2000 article from Broadcasting & Cable.
Todd Mueller 09-02-2007, 09:18 AM I'm so glad you guys found the info on the possible re-birth of UM. With all of the Cold Case, Forensic Files, America's Most Wanted, and 48-Hours type shows out there, I still think UM has it's place.
Nice work to all of you who are finding the info to keep us updated!
wimpydodo 09-10-2007, 06:25 PM Has anyone heard anyabout DEW lateiy?
Has anyone heard anyabout DEW lateiy?
With no official explanation, he was removed from the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list without ever being found. But the search for him continues.
wimpydodo 09-10-2007, 08:06 PM Thanks Kane. I would like for everyone to take a look at (www.ipetitions.com/petition/J-R-F-A-B-B-Y)
wimpydodo 09-11-2007, 11:14 AM Would someone mind telling me how to start a knew thread? Thanks.
crystaldawn 09-11-2007, 11:26 AM Would someone mind telling me how to start a knew thread? Thanks.
Right below the two sub-boards at the top of the page there is a box that says "new thread". Click on that and then it will give you a blank form where you can type in the title and information. Then click on the button on the bottom when you're finished(something like 'start new thread') and the thread will be visible. If you still have problems let me know and I will start one for you.
