age of 30-lol In ep ep on this DVD I would just look at him hard and never could see him being 30 even though he was but I think it was the hair, and mustache and side burns that made him look older. He could have passed for 42.

 Yeah, I remember when I started watching Kotter back in the mid 90's, I thought Gabe was in his 40's. I was surprised to learn he was only 30 during the first season. IMO, it was the moustache that made him look older. I guess a moustache will make anyone look a little older but on him it made him look a lot older.

and Mr Kotter was actually supposed to be in his late 20's. Remember, he was supposed to have graduated 10 years ago when the show started, so that would make him 28.

Well there is not much difference between 28 and 30-lol well are talking about 2 years. He didn't look 28, 30, or 32, he looked 42-lol

I think a lot of people back then looked older than they were. Now a days people look younger than their age now. I remember seing a 19 year old girl when I was 10 and to me she looked older than 19.

I think that Mr. Kotter was supposed to be 28 but I was not buying it because I thought that he looked older. Julie to me could have passed for late twenties. If Gabe Kaplan was 30, then he was 30.

Of course, if he was held back enough times, like some of the Sweathogs whom he was like as a kid, maybe he was upper 30s :-)

Seriously, did you ever see Dodgers/Indians pitcher Orel Hershiser? The guy had a real baby face. Being legally blind I don't notice it, but I'd hear people say he looked like a kid fresh out of high school in his 30s. So, I think it's just genetics, too, some people will just age better than others. Plus, some might be environment, what kind of life they led.
