I think the whole point was Julie' anticipation of how bad the joke's pun was and her laughing at that fact.

I alway thought it was pretty much a given the joke was going to be lame.

Kotters smirk afterward was not for a victory with a funny joke, but for getting a unpredictable bad pun out that Julie didn't see coming.

He had some pretty terrible jokes but they had a "I Got You" quality to them. He kind of reminds me of Groucho Marx.

The Teaser and Tag of every ep was just TOO MUCH

I actually liked Mr. Kotter's jokes. :lol: Yeah, they were corny, but in a funny sort of way. Occasionally he had a very funny joke. I forget the name of the episode, but he was telling his wife about a singing telegram and all of the sudden he starts singing "your sister rose is dead...". :lol: I thought that was hilarious.

I think Mr. Kotter was the coolest teacher ever! His Jokes were not funny to me but the way he interacted with his students was very funny.

I wish I had a teacher like that growing up.

Yeah, that was one of my favorite ones. I wish I could remember it (I used to know it, but it's been so many years since I've heard it, I can't remember it anymore)

Looks like we got alot of the same people replying to this thread that are also on the Alice board...I guess a bunch of us like the same shows :)

The SAD TAG of the WEEK-lol

Some shows had a running gag and Kotter's jokes were their running gag. I liked hearing about his strange Uncles and Aunts. It made you want to meet them, especially Uncle Max, LOL.

I liked Kotter's jokes. They were a throwback to the style of nightclub comedy that Kaplan loved and performed.

The fact that everybody hated whenever he told one made it even funnier.
