I think the Chief was one of the best t.v. dads of all time! He was a real man: so rugged and tough on the outside with a heart of gold on the inside. It's easy to see how much his daughters loved and respected him. The Chief's character was so much like a real dad. He always tried to do the right thing but didn't always succeed. Did he make mistakes raising his daughters? Yes. Did he always say or do the right thing? No. That's like a real father. His love for his girls took precedence over anything else in his life. All he wanted was the best for Katie, Julie, and Samantha. Despite his being hard-nosed and gruff, he was a very loving and tender father. That is best demonstrated when he let all three of his daughters get in bed with him even though it was so crowded. They wanted to be close to their daddy before the surgery, and that's very touching. The Chief was the kind of father that was able to strike a pretty good balance. If his girls needed to be held and comforted he did that. But, if they needed to be disciplined he didn't hesitate to do that either. That's what being a good father is. I so much respected the Chief.

I agree wholeheartedly! I was glad that the Chief was politically incorrect. He expressed his opinion and did not care what the rest of the world thought. He did the right thing even when the right thing wasn't the easy thing (or popular) thing to do.:)

how long has it been since He Passed

He passed away on May 8, 1985, so it's been a little over 22 years, since he's been gone.
