View Full Version : Funniest episode
chopperguy 06-17-2007, 12:03 AM I can't remember when I watched the last re-run of this show. I believe it was in the late 1980's. I don't believe I have ever seen many of the episodes. But one sticks in my mind.
It was the show where these old gangers criminals get together and reminisce about a bank robbery gone awry. They believe the came SO CLOSE to the perfect crime, and ALMOST got away with it.
Well, they decide to try again....and it is some of the funniest comedy I have seen in a sitcom. Like I said, I really don't know a lot about this show, but this one episode is a real classic.
It's been so long since I've seen it, I can't even give more detail. I only know that I busted a gut the first time I saw it.
octobereve 06-20-2007, 07:34 AM Offhand I don't remember that episode since it's been so long since I've seen the show, but I do remember that Car 54 would have me laughing from the beginning to end of most episodes.
dakert 06-20-2007, 10:21 AM The old gangsters episode was funny as were most of the episodes. I got the series on dvd from ioffer.com 2 years ago.
TV_on_the_Porch 06-20-2007, 06:16 PM Back when Nick @ Nite announced the celebration of its tenth anniversary would be to bring back single episodes of all the series it once ran, the episode of Car 54 that immediately came to mind is the one that they did in fact use: "I HATE Captain Block!"
gidgetgrape 06-23-2007, 06:58 PM My favorites are Toody's Paradise and Toody and the Art World. In Toody's Paradise , Lucille thinks Toody has another wife and a son. In Toody and the Art World , Toddy gives away a valuable painting. They're all hillarious though!
tv star collector 08-18-2007, 04:24 PM There were a lot of funny episodes. Two that come to mind are "I Won't Go"
(with Molly Picon) and the first episode, "Who's for Swordfish?" The second
episode, "Something Nice for Sol" was pretty good, too.
ronmad 12-26-2011, 01:38 PM Toody and the Art World is by far my favorite. I even remember its original broadcast. The running joke of the painting that looks like "Lower Manhattan at Sunset.........from the New Jersey Side." OMG...that kills me every time.:)
tvfreak1987 12-27-2011, 12:51 AM I HATE Captain Block!!! I HATE Captain Block!!! I HATE Captain Block!!! I HATE Captain Block!!! I HATE Captain......
dahatman 04-24-2012, 12:28 AM watching episodes on METV. haven't seen them in years. all hilarious. My fav is toody undercover.:happyface
tjays 07-02-2012, 11:33 PM So many funny episodes! But my favorite was "Something nice for Sol". Only 2 seasons of this show???? Makes no sense.
Becca3557 09-08-2012, 02:21 PM I love them all. It is one of the funniest shows ever made IMHO. But my favorites are when they were choosing which Broadway show to see (Little Miss Pioneer!). And the one where Toody is aggravated because he thinks Francis has forgotten their anniversary and the rest of the crew think it is the Polceman's Ball (Schnauzer -- "To go where??!! To do what??!!" ).
ajgenard 09-23-2012, 05:17 AM I've been recording the Saturday night airings on MeTV for several months now. Thus far I've seen about 25-30 episodes (half the series) and wouldn't call a single one of them a stinker. What a rarity, even the most well-regarded shows in history have a few stinkers per season. Even 50 years later it seems like every single episode has original and/or fresh ideas that we haven't seen 1000x before in countless other shows. Quite a shame Car 54 didn't last longer or gain a larger following.
Honestly, everything I've seen thus far is great and it's hard to pick a favorite episode. From Toody's Boy Scout nephew solving tough cases and thwarting a robbery to Toody and Muldoon being assigned to escort the president, all have me cracking up.
DennisF 12-07-2012, 03:20 PM I always liked the one with Jan Murray where they kept singing Boom, Boom. Boom.
Coffeecup 03-18-2013, 05:53 PM I saw an funny episode where Gunther goes to work undercover and Lucille's friends see him and thinks he had another new family. Paul Okeefe as the son is so funny. Interesting to see Paul before he was on Patty Duke show.
Edison 02-13-2017, 02:09 AM Ooh ! Ooh ! "Change Your Partner". Captain Block makes a big mistake, but redeems himself.
jehobden 02-14-2017, 03:36 PM I saw an funny episode where Gunther goes to work undercover and Lucille's friends see him and thinks he had another new family. Paul Okeefe as the son is so funny. Interesting to see Paul before he was on Patty Duke show.
Paul O'Keefe also played Toody's crime-solving nephew who kept being told to go away after making suggestions to Toody & Muldoon, who then immediately pretended that his statements were their own.
