When you're depressed, do you listen to upbeat songs that will improve your mood or sad songs that will allow you to wallow in your misery?

I usually listen to sad songs until I finally feel like I've cried enough to release whatever it is bothering me.

Most of the time, I'll put on happy music to lift my spirits, but, if I really need a good cry, i'll listen to sad music.

Ditto! With the happy music, I usually turn it up loud and that's when I start to feel better 'cause I'm so into the song(s). But yeah, sometimes you just need a good cry so every now and then, with the happy songs, I'll listen to one that gets the tears flowing.

James Ingram songs really get the tears flowing for me.

Definitely the sad songs. I love it when I'm depressed and it's raining...I put on some of my slower, more harmonic songs...and that pretty much does it. Tears stream out...I hate myself, then it stops raining, I run out of sad songs and start playing the disco ones, then I feel better about everything. It's a complicated cycle.

Wow, musical diversity is a beautiful thing, really it is. "I Ain't Mad at Cha" followed by "For All We Know" has to be an amazing sound.

I play sad and/or angry songs. Never happy songs. I tend to wallow in my misery a lot and I don't want to be happy some times.

If I'm feeling blue, I can't listen to music at all.

I very seldom get depressed, but I'd rather have some upbeat music on those rare occasions when I'm down.

The Carpenters just rule. I also like listening to Roberta Flack and/or Donny Hathaway in those mellow moods.

Oh yeah, them too definitely. "The Closer I Get To You" and "A Song For you" are great songs for those moods.

I think my favorite duet by them is "You Are My Heaven". It's so sad that he died; they could've made more great music.

When I am feeling depressed I always put on Bruce Springsteen's 1982 album Nabraska and it always makes me feel better.

The Carpenters is an excellent choice. She had an amazing voice and she's never failed to move me to tears.
