When the traffic light turns yellow, do you slow down and stop or do you speed up and go on through it?

I usually go through them if I'm pretty close.

I do the same. But it just irritates me when I see someone moving slow in front of me forcing me into that situation.

I'm the same way, unless there are red light cameras. In that case, I won't speed up a little because those things will catch you and take a picture. I don't want to get a ticket. It's so unnecessary.

Why do you think it turns yellow??? geez! you stop! People have been killed by idiots like that speeding through!!

Depends on how close I am to the light. If it turns yellow as I am about to approach the intersection, I'll speed up a bit and go through. If I am too far away and can clearly see I won't make it before the light turns red, I'll slow down and stop. It all depends.

Guilty as charged. I need to change some of my driving habits.

I know I've set a bad example for my son by going through the lights on yellow, but its one of those hard habits to break. I'm pretty good at judging if I can make it through on yellow before it changes to red. If I think its going to be too close, I stop.

It's not that easy. People will honk at you and get all bent out of shape if you dare to even slow down during a yellow light. Here, green = go, yellow = go faster, red = slow down.

There was an interview with the late actor River Phoenix and he was asked this question. He said, "I would most definitely slow down."

I'd slow down too, if I could drive.

I slow down if I'm far enough away that I can slow down without getting rear ended, otherwise, no.

So if you run somebody over just say the person behind you was honking at you!

It depends. If I'm close, I'll go. If I'm kind of close, but someone is turning left, then I stop and let them go. If I'm kind of close and no one's there, then I speed up and go through it.

It looks like you're in agreement with River, coffield. :)

People will honk and get all bent out of shape anyway. It's how they are.

I stop.

I used to speed up and go through but haven't in a long while. Again, depends on how close, the road conditions (is it wet and slippery. etc.) but for the most part I do try to slow down and stop - or at least proceed with caution.

Yeah, they've installed those red light cameras all over our area too (although I'm mainly in the country and they're not out here, but I've seen too many t-bone accidents at the intersections in the country so I'm even more careful up this way). The roads up here can be very tricky - narrow country roads that are very hilly with tall trees lining the roads - doesn't give you much time to react if some jerk decides he's going to take the amber light at 100 kmph.

You should slow down, ready to stop....unless its not safe to do so , say if youre already only feet from the intersection and stopping quickly would endanger the car behind you........in that case you procede cautiously through the intersection, without speeding up! (If you need to speed up, you should have had enough time to stop in the first place!)

I always go through yellow.

It depends how close I am being followed from behind. I was in a very bad accident several years ago as I was slowing down for the yellow and the person behind me punched it to get through. I always quickly check the rear view now but usually I will slow down and wait for the next light.
