how bad is it getting them removed? i'm getting it done tomorrow and it's not the actual procedure i'm worried about as much as the fact that i'll tear open my mouth if i eat anything crispy within three weeks afterward and i'm scared i'll forget, and how i may start to feel bones in my mouth sticking out in the meantime, which simply creeps me out. just the more i learn about it the more disgusted and freaked out i am, if there is anything that lessens the need to be worried about it i would like to know.

You have my sympathies, darling, I've been there. I had all 4 taken out at once in 1997, and because I have a thin frame, I was more nauseous from the anthestetic than anything else. I had dry heaves for 2 days, and had to stick to a soft diet for about a week after that. Don't get me wrong, I like mashed potatoes, jello and pudding just fine, but not when that's all you can eat. It was about a week and a half before I attempted to eat solid foods again. Just take your time chewing them. I was also very groggy and sleepy. It was over a week before I started to feel back to normal again.

It was necessary for me to have those teeth taken out ASAP because of my dental work (my braces had been off for just 2 years then). My sister never wore braces, but she had to have her wisdom teeth taken out several years later. She has a stockier build than I do, so she wasn't as nauseous as I was. However, she had more pain than I did.

In any case, it isn't fun. Just make sure someone drives you home, because the drugs they give you knock you off your feet. Play it up a little so you can be spoiled a bit. Let us know what happens, and take care of yourself!!

Well I'm not gonna lie it hurts bad! i had 4 removed in early febuary dang it was so bad well they said mine was impacted badly so that's probably why. The pain during the surgery actaully depends on how impacted ur teeth are. My bro said it diddnt hurt but cept for the last one because the dentist diddnt put any numbing cause he wanted to go fast and it hurt bad he said. It hurts after I had to take a couple of pain killers my cheeks started to get swollen but it went away I wasent able to eat solid foods for like a week. But don't worry better to get them out now then later!
GOOD LUCK!

My removal was split up over 2 sessions, and in my case they actually opted to remove my 2nd molars on top rather than the wisdom teeth - the 2nd molars (the teeth before the wisdoms) were going to need extensive work, while the upper teeth would probably settle into a nice place without them there, so that was done. On bottom the wisdom teeth were removed as normal.

They did my right side first. They gave me a nice little blast of what I presume was novocaine, yanked them out. I bled and hurt for a little bit, then I was fine. I was back to eating regular food 2-3 days later. Took ONE Aleve for pain, and that's IT.

Two weeks later, they did the same thing on the left. Unfortunately, while the top 2nd molar acted much like the right side teeth, the wisdom tooth on bottom was fairly well impacted. It broke while the dentist was trying to remove it. It was eventually removed though, and I went home. That time...it took *two* Aleve to deal with the pain. Again, 2-3 days later I was back to normal.

For whatever reason, it takes a severe amount of problems for me to experience dental pain. The dentist who took mine out was shocked I wasn't feeling pain due to the wisdom tooth on the bottom left.

I had all four extracted in the early '90s.
It felt weird chewing for about 3-4 days afterward, so my diet was mainly yogurt, pudding and other soft foods. No straws allowed because the suction could start bleeding where the teeth were.
The pain afterwards wasn't too bad... Advil was all I needed.

I had no complications... only very slight bleeding and the gums healed okay.

I had two of mine out last month, and it wasn't too bad. I didn't really have any pain (although I took Advil just in case). For me the worst part was the numbness. I was numb in my chin for about two days. Talk about frustrating!! I stuck to a soft diet for a couple days, but after that, I think I was fine. Oh, and Monika's not kidding about the drugs they give you. I was completely out of it afterrward! lol I came home and I wanted to do was sleep.

I had all 4 out 3 years ago... it kinda sucked. I bled for like, 2 days, couldn't eat right for 3 weeks, and was overall generally miserable.

Take your pain meds, that's all I'm gonna say.

I need to have them surgically removed because they didn't grow in right. Been putting it off.

I sympathize. I was strongly recommended to get mine removed as well. I have a cavity on lower side as well. pissed: So, I need to look into talking to some oral surgeons to get estimates. I would love to get braces on my teeth soon after.

I had all 4 out in '87 and it only hurt the day after but not really bad. I think the worst thing about it, for me, was that I felt sick to my stomach after the anasthesia wore off.

thanks everyone. the surgery itself went great, my mouth was hurting like hell earlier but has gotten better, and i'm just really god damn pissed off because my dad has been giving me **** all day, partly for my condition. i was trying to take a painkiller and it took me several tries because my mouth was so numb i couldnt feel a damn thing i was doing and apparently he thought yelling and cursing at me for it as if it were my fault would help....then later on he mistakenly gave me something cold to take with another pill (it's supposed to be warm water) and i was literally screaming and crying in pain and all he did was stand there and give off an irritated sigh. i had my door locked once while i was changing, he tried to open it, then stood by and yelled at me for having it locked and proceeded to start opening it with the key, i got changed fast enough and went to open the door, i asked him why i cant have any privacy, he told me that i usually can but when i'm "sick" i can't lock any doors because i have to have someone be able to watch over me, but that it doesn't matter anyway because "no one" ever barges in on me without knocking while my door is closed anyway. 1) yeah, having a sore gum makes me totally incapable of being in a room by myself, as if i'm going to fall over and have a heart attack, and 2) you TOTALLY didn't just try to barge in on me by trying to open the door without knocking first and then TRYING TO UNLOCK IT YOURSELF WITHOUT MY CONSENT. totally unacceptable. and in the meantime he's just been purposely starting fights over ******** things and lying his way through to try to "win" them, but eventually just ending them by saying "yeah well nevermind, you just refuse to listen to me" in response to my constant requests that he explain himself. damn it, if it weren't for the fact that i'm moving out in two months i'd probably kill myself by now.

well yeah, basically if the surgery doesn't ruin my day, something else has to.

Great to know your surgery went well. Well I did not have a problem taking a pain killer but my mouth wasen't numb so it hurt like hell. They gave me something to chew on to stop the beeding but I coulden't take it so I just threw it away which is probably why my cheeks started swelling up arg! My dentist told me that garggling warm water with salt was a good idea I did it but you should ask your dentist first. The thing that also sucked was that at times I kept forgetting to take the penecilin they game me afterwards but oh well. Hope your mouth feels better:wave:

I had my wisdoms out in January, and made a thread about it.

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=191743

I had a picture-perfect extraction procedure and picture-perfect recovery. In fact, I was eating semi-solid foods not even 8 hours after the procedure. I took quite a few Vicodins, tho, because I had on-and-off discomfort for like a week or two afterwards.

I had one lower wisdom tooth removed last year because it seemed like it was the only one impacted. The procedure wasn't that bad but my cheek was swollen for 2-3 days and the pain lasted for a week but they gave me pain meds for that. Just 2 weeks ago I went to the dentist and now she's telling me that the other 3 need to be pulled just because no one gets only one removed. Weird! But I guess I have to get prepared.

I had all my wisdom teeth yanked in November of 2006, and because I delayed the surgery so long, all four neighboring molars had to go, too. Eight teeth in one surgery.

I was nervous over nothing. The surgery was a piece of cake, and recovery only took a few days. In fact, I was on solid food again after about four days.

Sarah, I'm glad your surgery went well. Just take the next few days and relax (and eat lots of pudding - just watch out for those extraction sites!).
