WWE Hall of Famer Sherri Martel (real name Sherri Russel, better known as Sensational Sherri) has died. Martel, best remembered as one of the top female managers of all time, worked alongside Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels, and Ted DiBiase back in the 1990s with the WWF.

Martel made the move to World Championship Wrestling in 1994 where she worked alongside Ric Flair during his feud with Hulk Hogan, later moving on to manage Booker T and Stevie Ray as the Harlem Heat tag team.

Sherri was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 21 weekend in Chicago, IL and made regular appearances at conventions and media events. She was only 49 years old. The cause of death is not immediately known.

What the hell is going on in wrestling?! These wrestlers are dying young! This is very disturbing! I am really sorry to hear this! I liked Sherri when she was in the AWA as the women's champion. She was also entertaining to watch as as Randy Savage and Ted DiBiase's manager. Gosh, this is too hard to take! Somebody needs to do some investigating in wrestling!

I just read it and I'm saddened at the news.:( I loved Sherri.

I remember the old WCW's Bash at the Beach pay-per-view program in 1994, when Sherri Martel was at Ric Flair's side in a world heavyweight title bout against Hulk Hogan, who had Jimmy Hart and Mr. T at his side. 4-time NBA World Champion Shaquille O'Neal held up the belt, prior to the start of the match. At one point in the match, Sherri tossed Ric a foreign object before Mr. T carried her away from ringside. I've got all kinds of memories of Sherri Martel, but I can't get to them all, right now. All the same, rest in peace, Sherri Martel.

I would love to see her get a dvd release, it's a damn shame that WWE has ignored her accomplishments. All you hear is about Benoit and the only thing that was done for her was showing her pic on the screen.

I agree with you, comedyfreak. A lot of people ignore women's wrestling and/or remember her as just a manger, but I thought she was one of the most accomplished female wrestlers of all time. Definitely a worthy champion, and it should be noted that once she dropped the belt to Rockin' Robin, the women's division basically tanked.

Also, I don't know why Benoit is getting so much attention. He's a murderer for crying out loud, but then we have WWE giving him a three hour tribute, just becuase he was a recent star.
