I like both but I've always preferred Sanford & Son over The Jeffersons so Redd gets my vote.

I like Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford, but I had gotten to see Sherman Hemsley longer, not only as George Jefferson, but also as Amen's Deacon Ernest Frye and B.P. Richfield, Earl Sinclair's boss on Dinosaurs. Clearly, I've got to go with Sherman Hemsley.

i like Sherman Hemsley.
and dose anybody agrees that Sherman Hemsley had more success after the Jeffersons ended then the success Redd Foxx had after Sanford And Son ended
Reed Foxx had 4 failed tv show after Sanford And son and didn't apear very much on other tv shows.
Sherman Hemsley was th opposite ,he had 2 successful tv shows and appeared on a number of other tv shows and movies after the Jeffersons(and amen)ened

Don't forget Dinosaurs ran for 4 seasons in the early 90s. Sherman Hemsley was the voice of Earl Sinclair's blowhard boss, B.P. Richfield.

They're both very funny actors, but I favor Sherman H. a little bit more.

George Jefferson rocks, I thought Sanford and Son, kind of tired outside of LaWanda Page, who was a hoot.

That's a hard one-In the Aaron Ruben-produced episodes of "Sanford and Son",Redd Foxx was delightful and funny as Fred Sanford, but when Redd Foxx returned to the show from his walkout(new producers took over),"Sanford and Son"went slowly downhill,.Sherman Hemsley, when he was on "All in the Family"as George Jefferson, was at least somewhat likable. But on "The Jeffersons",George got a(sometimes)huge ego,and swelled head.

Both were/are very funny men - but I think I'll give the edge to Redd Foxx. His timing was incredible. Then again, Sherman always cracks me up when he dances.

I think George Jefferson is the funniest character in tv history. I think Fred Sanford is an absolute riot, but George is the man!

Analysis of both characters from a recent a book I received

Fred Sanford-"A Crusty but Benign man trying to cajole or outfox everyone, even his own son.

George Jefferson-"spleneticlittle whip of a man who bullies like a demented overseer, seldom speaks below a shriek and worships at the church of ostentation.

Trying to say that they had the same personality

Book-"Blacks and White TV"-1983-Fred Macdonald

I like the Jeffersons a little more than Ssanford and Son so my vote goes to Sherman. He was hilarious as Deacon Frye on Amen.
