I'm officially done with ION, I have written many well thought out and educated rants about the state of classic television and especially ION's constant promises and then failures...we were all led to believe several different times that the hours would expand soon and gems were coming...instead we got shows that had exposure on other networks 90% of the time.....starting with green acres was the first swing of the ax...now adding designing women and who's the boss is just the final straw....goodbye ION and good luck with your informercials!

I had a sick feeling Alice wouldn't last. I'm afraid it is a show that has not aged gracefully with the public. It's all big business, ratings, and $$$...not entertainment. Naturally, the correct thing to do is to replace it with an overplayed show like Designing Women. Well, at least it's not Friends or Seinfeld.

Looks like our only hope is to see future DVD releases from Warners, and I'm not holding my breath.

I really like the older episodes of Designing Women, however, I was really, REALLY starting to enjoy Alice. And also as much as I like DW, it's been played so often and Alice so little. Couldn't they have waited until the Alice at least ran through one complete cycle before taking it off? I really hate it when stations don't let a show go through at least one full run.

Instead of bothering with loser ION, let's all e-mail Warner and request a Season 1 DVD release of Alice.

I would like to add that the ONLY classic TV network that really cares, understands and appreciates viewers like us is.......AMERICAN LIFE TV....I always knew that, but please read Pav's recent interview with them on the blog and you'll truly appreciate their theory of business... & instead of wasting time emailing ION (because they don't care) why not call your local cable or satellite provider and demand American Life!

Yeah, to be honest with you, I'd rather see the older episodes of Amen over DW anyday, even though I like DW. I wish I had AmericanLife. It's about time that there was a network for every classics fan to enjoy. TVLand obviously isn't the spot for that anymore, and I had hopes for Ion, it wasn't gonna be 100% classic TV, however it really started to show signs of promise. But after hearing the latest news about their schedules and things, it seems to be much more of a disappointment now.

Nooooooooooooooooo!

The only is maybe Me-TV here in Chicago, but when I spoke to them about a year ago, they said they wanted to add it, but weren't able to obtain the show.

I wonder if it is in exclusivity with Ion, or if other stations can buy it.

Also, when is IN2TV going to put some new episodes up. They haven't added any since March.

Mr. Television

Why would anyone get invested in this channel when they change their schedule so much? It isn't like they don't have the timeslots...get rid of the infomercials.

What is up with ION? Welcome Back Kotter is off and now Alice? What are they thinking? Why do they show so many infomercials? Will they ever be a 24 hour network with classic tv? Tune in next time to find out when ION will blunder next.

I know us Alice fans are upset, but really this show was not doing as good as series like Mama's Family, Wonder Years and Diagnosis Murder. No, it wasn't doing that bad either, but right now they are testing out what works. Alice will be back, I'm sure. And as for the infomercials...they can't just remove them just like that. Read more:

Those shows have been in syndication for years so of course they're going to have better ratings. Shows like Alice need time to find a new audience. The same thing will happen with Perfect Strangers and Mr.Belvadere if they're ever picked up.

I have zero confidence now in ion. Like Sonny said, why get invested in a channel when they will yank a show in a moment's notice?

Pavan
06-09-2007, 01:07 PM
Not true Brian. Wonder Years is still on and going strong. It came the same time as Alice. At least ION kept it for a full three months, unlike some of the recent rare to find series like Hogan Family, Evening Shade, and Family Ties...all which were yanked off in days on their respective cable networks.

Wonder Years really has not been seen in syndication for quite some time.

As for Alice, it surely will return. Amen was taken off and returned, though now it will be gone again.

To be honest everyone, I'm not that bothered by the News because ION has done a poor job in the way they presented Alice eps with all the poor edits and bad quality. It had gotten to the point where I didn't even have the motivation to turn to ION at 7:30pm because they were giving us crappy episodes. ION is not qualified to air sitcoms and it's good that there is a chance that Alice may end up on another cable network that is not STRANGE like this pitiful station. My Ion experience has made me realized that It's no point in ever turning to this network again no matter WHAT show they pick up.

Wonder Years was shown sometime back (few years back) here on our local Fox channel. I guess to me, it seems like it has been on A LOT. Mama's Family seems like it is always on somewhere. It was on CMT (i think it still is, isn't it) and here it is on ION. Designing Women, gimme a break. That show had its run. And on top of that, TWO BACK TO BACK EPISODES? Pffff.

Wonder Years was syndicated a lot in the 90's too and least on my locals and wasn't it on N@N at one time? Mama's Family was on TBS for years. Same with Designing Women...on Lifetime for years.

funny thing is the show isnt that good:lol: It just reminds me of my youth. I was about 5 years old when it started and whenever they show an episode, I am like "OMG I remember that.. OMG I thought I never see that again, I totally forgot about that....& wow why did I watch this show every week"

But it has some charm. I guess...

For me it just brings back memories of not even being in school yet:cool:

So there isnt a email address we can write them, huh.

* I do hope they show the episode where Alice falls backwards before they take it off.

Yep. You are correct. Wonder Years feels like it never left the air after its first run. Mama's Family had its run on TBS FOR YEARS!!! That's another show that feels like it hasn't left the air. It is also on CMT!!!!

Austin Tripper, they did show that episode last week where Alice fell backwards and none of them (Mel, Flo, Vera) caught her like she thought they would.

ION must be looking to improve their ratings with women. They tried it with Alice, but the ratings must suck...even by ION standards. DW has a much better track record in syndicated ratings, so it's probably a no-brainer for the ION suits.

Did ION even consider the fact that maybe the ratings were dismal for Alice simply because of how they chopped up that show? Maybe fans couldn't stand it that way.

Also, maybe new fans were having a hard time following the episode. I knew what was going on, but maybe some were watching and were like "WTF? This is confusing."

The finale, "Th-th-th-that's All, Folks," aired on March 19, 1985. Reruns aired for the rest of the spring and summer.

I don't believe ION will ever expand their entertainment programming hours, I have been in the television industry for 27 years and deal with all the major informercial network suppliers, terms are always year to year and sometimes month to month, so the constant excuse is that they are contractually obligated is hogwash....they were free to stop running them friday afternoons, bodog (or whatever it is called,I believe they also pay ION to run it) ) also took informercial time off.....ION is heavily compensated to run informercials, they bring in big buck plus commissions on every sale to the network...just food for thought!

LOL! That is so funny. BTW, I knood Alice was leaving ION when I noticed that it wasn't listed on my TiVo schedule for 6/25. At first, I thought the TiVo schedule data just didn't get that far yet. Then I noticed that it wasn't on the schedule while all my other programs are for that week. Darn. Oh well, it means more time for us. And Alice had too many commercial interruptions on ION anyways.

But ION should be called - The Ignoramus Overblown Network!

So sad that Alice never even gotten a chance to grow on here. Amen was twice shafted by ION, and they badly mistreated Growing Pains of all shows like N@N did! :(

And now I come to find them picking up N@N's left-overs?

Yeah, it's a shame since I was looking forward to seeing all the Alice eps. too. I never even watched that show till it came to ION, and I was already liking it. That sure is so stupid the way ION's dropping that show so soon and abruptly, and you got that right on Ignoramus Overblown Network. LOL! They did the same thing with the Partridge Family and Welcome Back, Kotter last year too.

Now I really wish ION hadn't gotten "Designing Women"---I just started taping it on N@N a couple of weeks ago, and they show them complete with original end credits full screen, original end themes with no voiceovers, and everything.

But now that ION's acquired it, N@N has stopped showing it. So they may broadcast them with bad lighting and cut it up to bits like they did "Alice". Man, why couldn't ION have just left well enough alone...:(

Sure the episodes were cut up. That's better than not being able to see the show at all right? Right.

Remember when ION was Pax? During the day it was all infomercials. There was a year or two when the channel was popular and had more hours of programming but then it just went to pot. They're not changing anything about the infomercials any time soon. I happen to be in the minority that watches this channel for The Wonder Years. Maybe I've been under a rock but I haven't seen that show in syndication since it was taken off of ABC Family. That was several years ago. Where have you people lived that you've been seeing it again and again since it originally ended?

I actually liked Alice. I hope it will be back sometime in the not too distant future.

Wait, maybe this is ION's idea! Run a show for a few months, take it off for a few months, on again, off again. You never know.

megamanj2004

I still think Alice will Return from Hiatus

And give it the old "Heave-Ho" axe!

They did that to "Amen" twice.

As for when ION was PAX TV, they also used generic split-screen closing credits for their shows. (They did it to "Scarecrow and Mrs. King," "Valerie/Hogan Family," "Bonanza," and a few other shows.)

If they can't expand a bunch of hours all at once, maybe they could just do it an hour or two every month. Put Diagnosis Murder on at 5 PM, Designing Women at 6 PM, and leave Amen and Alice on at 7 PM. That way more people may be happy.
