As much as I liked this show, there were a couple of things that totally annoyed me:

1) Mr. French taking EVERYTHING the kids say so seriously! Come on, kids do say things they don't mean or far-out stuff, but don't overreact to it. "CHILDREN!"

2) Cissy's attitude towards various boyfriends she had. I'm talking about the episode where she gets a makeover to get the older boys to like her when there was an equally nice boy who liked her as she was.

3) the various guilt trips from either the kids or their friends. I'm like, "Oh lord, another guilt trip, don't fall for it"

4) Uncle Bill seems to mumble a lot, does he? I had to turn up my Tv just to hear waht he says

5) The sense that they had to be these PRACTICALLY PERFECT PEOPLE ALWAYS, as Mr. French stresses. "I will have you looking like a raggamuffin" or "You must always wear a dress to dinner". That same edict goes for the people they associate with, for example: The episode where Cissy and a group of kids are dancing in the apartment and Uncle Bill was like "you need to be a high-class lady" when he is talking to her later on. I totally rolled my eyes and was in plain disgust.

6) Things or situations the kids should have figured out for themselves without having to have Uncle Bill step in.

7) the fear of break-ups in the family or no one getting loved. Stop trippin! Nobody's going anywhere and no one's gonna take the other's place in your hearts. Examples: the ballerina buffy episode and the rodeo cowboy visit episode.

These are just things I noticed by watching the 3 seasons on DVD.

I suppose they were trying to show how a wealthy bachelor would relate to raising 3 children, so there were bound to be mistakes on his & Mr. French's part. But I couldn't imagine living like that. If they ever made mud-pies, Mr. French would have had a heart attack.

I think you're the one that's taking things too seriously, judging by the size of your post. I mean, come on, it's a TV show, not cancer research. Relax and enjoy it.

I agree with you 100 percent! I thought it was a great show . Very touching, and I personally liked the comedic lines here and there. These shows are meant to be enjoyed, absolutely. Mr French didn't want to be a "nanny", but being devoted to Bill Davis, he stepped up. And I think he did a great job. The children accepted him as part of their family, and he was touched by it. This is one of my favorite shows of the 60's, and I'm down to the last 20 episodes or so of my set. I wish there were more of them.

It was a nice show, that tried to show proper manners and did touch on serious problems without being vulgar. As someone who grew up in a 4 floor cold water walk up in NYC when I was a kid, I always found the episodes where the children tried to help the less fortunate and/or ill to be the best. I wish shows like this still existed, in these times, unfortunately adults have become so jaded that they have included children in their corruption. It's still one of my favorite shows, and I am sitting here on a Friday night watching season 4 in my Apt overlooking the NYC skyline, just like most of the episodes had in most of the openings. :)
