I'm going to be more specific about this thread. This is about characters in sitcoms and/or other programs, excluding live programs, that have lines in the script, like Cody's line from a Step by Step episode: "I'll show you what room your fate awaits, right after this commercial message!" Another similarity would be Batman's Joker in 1992, after he activates a cannon to fire on the dynamic duo saying, "We'll return in just a moment, but first, a word from our sponsor!" If anyone knows of anymore similarities related to this topic from other TV shows, please post now.

Commercials breaks are never in the script. What u are talking about is the BUMPERS when you hear the voiceover of a certain cast member saying-"WE WILL BE RIGHT BACX! or "DON"T GO AWAY"

Actually many shows from the '50's had commercials built into the script just like in radio. Check out Burrns and Allen, also The Jack Benny Program on YouTube. The last show that had something very similar to this was a recent episode of Shark Tank. They faked a pitch for sweaters from a company that actually won an offer a few years ago from one of the Sharks. This fake pitch was for sweaters for the new movie "Migrations". The pitch was for sweaters with attached fabric from the arms to the body of the sweater to create wings.

Cast commercials. All the 50s sitcoms had them, into the early to mid sixties. Many times these shows were owned by the sponsors, thus their ads, often done by the cast. Also done on animated shows.

Then these gave way to bumpers, as noted, on many shows.

Same with at least the first two TV seasons of The Burns and Allen Show. After that they did pre- recorded or live announcer type commercials separate from the show.
