For me - hands down, the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. I started it again this morning before I went to work. I plan on finishing it when I get home tonight. :eyes:

There's several of Stephen Kings books thats been made into movies that I like such as Carrie, Cujo, and Christine just to name a few.

There are probably several (that I cannot think of), but one that came to mind right away was the old classic The Wizard of Oz, which was based on the book by author L. Frank Baum.

Robert Parker's books - Stone Cold, Night Passage, Death In Paradise, and Sea Change have all been made into tv movies with Tom Selleck playing the main character, Jesse Stone. I really like those too.

Thats so true, with the book you get more details and have a better understanding of the characters and their feelings. But its also nice when you get to see them come to life in a movie.:)

That's definately a classic, based on a classic book, but I can't call it a favorite of mine since the movie had nothing to do with what the book was about. I have the same problem with "Phantom of the Opera."

*Sigh* I just wish more people would read the books... [end of the English major's rant]

Anyways, I'm admittedly biased (in case you couldn't tell) of movies that are faithful to the books:

Tess (brilliant adaptation of Tess of the D'Urbervilles)
Little Women (1994)
Sense & Sensibility
Gone With the Wind
Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (the Fiennes/Binoche version)
Rosemary's Baby
The Stepford Wives (70s version)
The Painted Veil
The Razor's Edge (either version)
Dracula

That is probably the best version they'll ever make of it. But P&P's been done really well many times. Did you see the Keira Knightley one? That was surprisingly good. Even the unusual adaptions like "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Bride and Prejudice" were wonderful. I guess that's just evidence of a truly great story :)

I did see the 2005 version and while it was OK, it just doesn't compare to the 1995 version. My mom has the 1940 version, but I've never watched it. I probably should sometime.

I'm starting to read the novel again. I fall in love with Mr. Darcy all over again whenever I read the book or watch the movie. :eyes:   I don't think they could've found a better Mr. Darcy than Colin Firth.

I've seen the 1940's version I thought it was ok but since it was only 2 hours it seemed so short in comparison to the 1995 miniseries. I think that is main problem, since the miniseries was 6 hours it had so much more depth than any other version including the lastest one. And yes Colin Firth = Yummy:drool: :eyes:

I like the 40s version, but it does go by very quickly. Same with the '05, although that was definately more faithful.

But as I said before, the 1995 version is undoubtedly the best version they'll ever make of that book. I loved that Colin Firth played Darcy in Bridget Jones too! (But then again, who else could they have cast?) ;)

Gone With the Wind to me is a great example of putting a movie together. When they started to film it, everyone knew it was going to be quite epic and the biggest movie of all time to date. The fact that three directors and god knows how many screenwriters worked on it and made that picture is pretty incredible.

Also same with Lord of the Rings. Quite epic.

Mine goes to John Travolta for trying to do something with that crazy ass stupid movie STAYIN' ALIVE. Poor John, he must've known it was terrible but him being the nice guy that he is, didn't want to hurt Stallone's feelings.
