TV Land has picked up the cable off-net rights to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, adding it to the schedule as of August 7th.
Distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television, the show is arguably neither a TV-centric series nor a "classic" by most standards, but EM: Home Edition hits what the network calls its "sweet spot" - that is the audience that falls within the Adults 40-54 range.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Breaks Ground On TV Land On August 7

TV Land Wins Exclusive Off-Network Rights to Air Hit Series

NEW YORK, June 4 -- TV Land has secured the exclusive off-network rights from Disney-ABC Domestic Television to air Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - one of the most successful reality shows of all time - it was announced today. The deal launches in August and gives TV Land access to prior seasons of the series. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which has won two consecutive Emmy Awards and is one of primetime's most popular shows, will premiere on TV Land on August 7th in its regular timeslot of Tuesdays at 11pm (ET/PT).

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is the perfect complement to TV Land's strategy of superserving Baby Boomers, the first generation to grow up alongside television," explains Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land. "The show's central theme of giving back to society is a quality Boomers appreciate and the fact that each episode comes complete with a happy ending is a device the TV Generation has come to expect from TV viewing."

Premiering in 2003, each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a self-contained story which follows a team of designers, contractors and workers as they race against time to complete a project that would normally take months to achieve. The design team experiences changing the lives of these families in need, IF they can achieve the seemingly impossible - building an entire house in seven days. Each episode begins with the home makeover surprising the unsuspecting family with the news that they have been chosen to receive a home makeover. Then, it's a wild ride as viewers experience the unbelievable transformation of the house and emotional reveal to the families.

The hit series, which will begin its fifth season on ABC this fall, includes team leader and carpenter Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo (carpentry/attitude), Paige Hemmis (carpentry/nuts & bolts), Michael Moloney (interiors/glamour), Ed Sanders (construction), Preston Sharp (exteriors/big ideas), Tracy Hutson (shopping/style), Tanya McQueen (interiors), Eduardo Xol (landscaping) and John Littlefield (handyman/carpentry). Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is produced by Endemol USA and executive-produced by Denise Cramsey.

HUH? TV land has made the rant list-lol Reruns of a House being Made Over?

why?

I watch and enjoy EM:HE every week, but it honestly doesn't have a very good rewatchability - I NEVER watch it when it is a rerun (which they seem to rerun them a lot)

The show will only air once a week, Tuesdays at 11PM. This is a pre-syndication thing. Shows like CSI: NY, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Medium air once a week on cable, too. The 5-days a week deal won't start for another few years. So, TV Land will air it 5-days a week most likely in a few years.

are they just going to show the main show, or will they add the "How'd They Do That" episodes that they aired in the 2nd season?

(because those are definately the most entertaining episodes)

I'm not sure if they acquired the Monday series "How'd They Do That?"

Just when I think TV Land was only weird, it got weirder. EM:HE?!?! I thought TV Land was for classic TV! I suppose it was expected. Time to start buying more TV DVDs because I have a bad feeling they'll slowly start to take the classics off and become a whole different network kinda like when TNN turned into Spike TV... Worst case scenario... Right?

TNN turned into Spike TV because they had CMT, which has now become a rural version of MTV (little music)

I hope there are some wise TV exec's out there looking for a great idea. We need a new classic TV network. A network that will have a line up of great shows from the 50's,60's and the 70's. Most of the show's from the 80's and beyond are still on local TV stations and other cable networks. Let TV Land go there on way,we need a new channel.

Do the executives at TV Land not realize the original mission and intent of the network? Extreme Makeover is not CLASSIC TV, which is what TV Land is suppose to be airing. That network has lost it. First, they started airing their own lackluster original programming now they stoop to this.

Last night, I figured I'd turn on TV Land, maybe catch an old M*A*S*H or All In The Family or something.

They were showing the movie Arthur.

And now this. I hope a new channel comes along to pick up where TV Land leaves off and then another channel to pick up where the replacement channel leaves off. And so on and so on and...

It's time to change your SN..

It's just so frustrating and it happens over and over again. As soon as a great channel appears within a couple of years they sell out. We already have the FOX Reality Channel...why doesn't Extreme Makeover go over there.

I have that reality channel. Man, what a bunch of morons over there too. Why have a channel devoted to reality shows when all you get on the other channels is reality shows?

I think scripted shows, be they comedies or dramas, have more integrity than reality shows.

Why??

Because, they're supposed to be fake.
