View Full Version : Lawanda Page fire

I read on Lawanda Page's biography she was a fire dancer and swallowed fire. I just saw an episode this morning where one of Fred's tenants could not pay his rent. He left Fred his elephant as caladeral. Fred put on a circus.
She did a act in the show. Very talented. I was amazed she knew how to do that. I wondered how people can do those tricks. She lit Fred's cigarette and made fire come from her finger tips.

TVLand used to give a bit of trivia before each episode, and they said that in that ep, "The Greatest Show in Watts", we would see Aunt Esther perform an act that LaWanda Page actually performed for real. Otherwise, I would have thought it was faked for the episode.
julian bozo 06-04-2007, 12:37 AM Here is what I read about Lawanda Page:
Page began her career as a dancer and chorus girl on the club circuit. While performing in St. Louis Missouri, she was billed "The Bronze Goddess of Fire" because she lit cigarettes with her fingertips, swallowed fire and touched flaming torches to her body. (All which she did in the episode Circus for Watts) Things really got good for Page when her chilhood freind, comedian Redd Foxx gave her the biggest break of her career when he insisted she play his fiery, Bible - thumping ,sister-in-law Aunt Esther on his hit 70's tv series "Sanford ands son" at the age of 53.
Scoobiedoo30 06-25-2007, 11:00 PM I did not know that Lawanda was a dancer

I have seen various autographed photos of Lawanda Page, and of course her birth name was Alberta Peal, but on every autograph I saw, she had signed her name as"Aunt Esther"....watch it sucka!

As I understand it, LaWanda Page was only one of several "Friends of Redd" who were offered opportunities to perform on S&S. If I'm not mistaken, Leroy & Skillet, Bowlegs, Big Money Grip, and a few others were friends of Redd's from the club/black vaudeville days. What a great tribute to these talents, and what a tribute to the late, great Redd Fox.

In the "The Stand-In" episode, Al calls Fred "Redd" as he's walking in the door. Has anyone else noticed this?

YES! Thank you....I noticed that years ago. I was expecting to hear the director yell "CUT!" right then....I could tell by the faces of Fred and Bow Legs that they thought he had blown his entrance....
OH Nuts! 08-16-2007, 12:41 AM Lawanda Page was a riot on the show. I loved the way she didn't take any of his crap. Watch it sucka!
