It sounded a bit unbelievable that he of all people would be a fan of Jerry Reed. catlover79 05-31-2007, 10:39 PM  Who's Jerry Reed? Ireneparalegal 05-31-2007, 10:42 PM This is the same kid who told his mom he looks at Playboy. Brian Damage 05-31-2007, 10:42 PM  Who's Jerry Reed? Exactly!!! He is/was a country singer. TALLguyinKY 05-31-2007, 10:42 PM Ya never know, it was the 70s, and even some folks in the northeast like country music. catlover79, Jerry Reed was a country singer and actor, who was very popular in the 70s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Reed Brian Damage 05-31-2007, 10:44 PM Ya never know, it was the 70s, and even some folks in the northeast like country music. catlover79, Jerry Reed was a country singer and actor, who was very popular in the 70s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Reed It is very rare, there just aren't many stations that play country. It was more disco or rock and roll. catlover79 05-31-2007, 10:47 PM Before my time. Thanks guys, for enlightening me. TALLguyinKY 05-31-2007, 10:48 PM Oh yeah, I know country fans aren't as abundant in the northeast as in other parts of the country, but I've heard of some fans up there who hate it there are only 1 or 2 (if any, now) country music stations. Plus, maybe Tommy saw some of the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies with Jerry in 'em, and Tommy does seem like the type of 13 year-old boy who would find "When Your'e Hot You're Hot" hilarious, LOL. Good point, this episode was in 1978, when did the Bandit movie come out? catlover79 05-31-2007, 10:52 PM Good point, this episode was in 1978, when did the Bandit movie come out? The film came out in 1977, so it would have been topical. ;) Brian Damage 05-31-2007, 10:54 PM The film came out in 1977, so it would have been topical. ;) Thanks, I guess it would make sense then. TALLguyinKY 05-31-2007, 10:54 PM "Bandit" was '77 (II was '80, and III was '83). TALLguyinKY 05-31-2007, 10:55 PM The film came out in 1977, so it would have been topical. ;) Oh sure, you say Jerry Reed is before your time, but you know the "Bandit" film came out two years before you were born! :p ;) (assuming you were born in '79 going by your screenname that is, lol) catlover79 05-31-2007, 10:57 PM Oh sure, you say Jerry Reed is before your time, but you know the "Bandit" film came out two years before you were born! :p ;) (assuming you were born in '79 going by your screenname that is, lol) Yes, I was born in '79, but I looked up the release date of the movie on imdb.com. ;) I love your Janice avatar...the Muppets rule! :D TALLguyinKY 05-31-2007, 11:14 PM Yes, I was born in '79, but I looked up the release date of the movie on imdb.com. ;) I love your Janice avatar...the Muppets rule! :D Lol...:p And thanks, I love Janice and the Muppets! :D Hey Brian, another thought---"Bandit" came out in '77, and Alice and Tommy "broke down" in Phoenix in '76. So maybe bein' out west in Phoenix he was exposed to country music including Jerry Reed. So he could have become a fan, and got all excited when "Bandit" came out and got to see it there in Phoenix...and suddenly I realize I'm writing more fan-fiction about "Alice" than I should. LOL! Ireneparalegal 05-31-2007, 11:24 PM I wasn't a fan of country music, but he was well-known in the movies and hanging with Burt Reynolds and so forth. It's all abt who is popular at the moment, and Jerry Reed was just that, popular. However, they made it look like Tommy was into Jerry Reed as a musician. I could see if Tommy mentioned the Smokey movies or something. I don't believe that Tommy liked him for the music. Unless Alice played that music A LOT. catlover79 05-31-2007, 11:26 PM I wasn't a fan of country music, but he was well-known in the movies and hanging with Burt Reynolds and so forth. You can usually tell from watching old shows who was popular at the time by the special guests they have on a show. Scoobiedoo30 06-01-2007, 02:10 AM did the gang get to go here Jerry Reed what happen at the end Brian Damage 06-01-2007, 09:45 AM True. The fact that Jerry Reed appeared on Alice shows that he was popular at the time. You can usually tell from watching old shows who was popular at the time by the special guests they have on a show. It is great to look back at some of these guest appearances and wonder, "Who the heck is that?!?" Scoobiedoo30 06-01-2007, 12:33 PM I know when TV Show's like Alice has Guess Stars AB 06-01-2007, 03:26 PM Its kind of nice when someone like Jerry Reed or Ray Stevens can appeal to the young ones. Scoobiedoo30 06-01-2007, 05:17 PM witch season did Ray Stevens was in Ireneparalegal 06-01-2007, 05:21 PM It is great to look back at some of these guest appearances and wonder, "Who the heck is that?!?" I know for me, it's a no-brainer, I know who they are, but yeah, for someone who may be lots younger than me may scratch their head and say, "Who the hell is that?" FredScuttle 06-01-2007, 05:51 PM witch season did Ray Stevens was in He wasn't. He was just another country/comedy performer from the 70's that nowadays, most younger people would say "Who's that?" :) TALLguyinKY 06-02-2007, 02:38 AM I became a big Ray Stevens fan when I was a kid! :D I listened to the albums of his I had over and over and over again---he's terrific! The country version of Weird Al! I remember "I Need Your Help, Barry Manilow". Brian Damage 06-02-2007, 10:03 AM The only reason I ever heard of Ray Stevens is because of informercials on TBS. Ireneparalegal 06-02-2007, 02:31 PM The only reason I ever heard of Ray Stevens is because of informercials on TBS. He had two very popular songs which are vastly different from each other. "The Streak"...a funny song; and "Everything is beautiful" a song that I remember in a commercial, but can't remember which one. magellan333 06-03-2007, 11:32 PM I've not seen this episode of Alice, but I want to. On the subject of guest stars, I was 20 yrs old in 1998 and saw a 227 rerun. The studio audience goes crazy when Marvin Haggler comes in the door, but those watching with me had to tell me who he was. catlover79 06-03-2007, 11:37 PM I've not seen this episode of Alice, but I want to.
