Dreamworks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg has announced that there will be a Shrek 4 (2010) and Shrek 5,

“It’s a finite story, has been from the beginning and I think that’s part of its integrity, part of its strength, that we’re not thinking this up as we go,” he told The Age. “Ultimately we will come back to understand how Shrek arrived in that swamp. We will reveal his story.”

We have a prequel story to look forward to, and who knows what else. Oh yeah, and there is that Christmas special, and the theme park ride and… okay, realistically, the Shrek franchise will never truly end - will it?

I thought they had been officially announced the day after Shrek 1 became a hit.... I seem to remember them saying it was going to happen.

I hate prequels.

Does it ever feel like the whole thing "jumps the shark" when they start having a brood of ogre-lings? Like "Domestic Shrek". ohno: Oh wait, it's how Shrek CAME TO BE in the swamp. Like the world is just DYING to know. :rolleyes:

I enjoyed the second one. I have not seen the third. I can't work up the desire to see the third. I probably won't see the third. There's simply nothing more I want to know about Shrek. It was fabulous. But some things where never meant to be a major franchise...

Ugh...I can't stand prequels either. I have not seen Shrek 3 yet but I didn't care for the second one.

I did cave and buy one of the Shrek glasses from Mickey D's, because I wanted the Puss In Boots with the big eyes picture. :lol:
