View Full Version : The Bradys as Students
Madame X 05-25-2007, 01:11 AM Which Brady do you think was the best student? My guess is Marcia.
Which Brady do you think was the worst student? My guess is Bobby or Peter (they weren't dumb, just lazy).
I think the rest of the kids were probably average.
An interesting note: My brothers and I are the same ages as the Brady kids and we grew up in California too. We always got a kick out of the fact that the younger Bradys had the same math books we did! I think you can see Cindy carrying one when Greg is smoking. It has a yellow triangle on the back.
Zoneboy 05-25-2007, 01:25 AM Jan, Maybe not the most academically gifted of the kids but there was one episode where she received a high score on something and was scheduled to speak about it but when she added up the score, She found that the teacher had done so incorrectly which lead to her being honest about it and confronting the teacher just as she was about to go on stage.
For smartest, I'd go with Jan too, Marcia was too busy being popular. And Bobby would probably be the worst student, because he was always up to some kind of mischief.
Tweety 05-27-2007, 07:01 AM In "My Sister's Shadow", Jan's teacher (also Marcia's old teacher) talks about how Marcia was one of her best students ever... Jan says "I know, you told me", implying that Marcia had set a very high standard to Jan to have to try to follow, and that the teacher constantly reminded Jan of how good Marcia was.
I got the impression from that scene that Marcia was not only popular, but an excellent student as well.
Of course, that was just Junior High... we know less about Marcia's academic performance in high school.
I imagine Greg was a good student in high school, but that impression is influenced by the fact that he later became a doctor. I think that once Greg got to high school and got past his obsession with baseball, not to mention his crush on Linda, his math teacher, that he was a very good student.
It is true that, in real life, Eve was a better student than Maureen, but I kind of thought that Marcia and Greg were better students than their younger sibblings.
And Zoneboy is right... Jan does get extra points for being so honest about that scoring error in the essay contest. A lot of kids would have just taken the award (and no doubt felt bad about it later on).
I think it's clear from Mike and Carol's comments at varoius times that the kids were all pretty good students and only screwed up when they got lazy, or had major distractions (such as a hot math teacher :) ).
Rich3 05-27-2007, 10:47 AM It seems like Greg is the only one who never really did anything of an academic nature during the series. He was more into athletics, or else the judging committee of new cheerleaders.
mlingerfelt 05-27-2007, 09:46 PM I will all of them was average none of them were dumb.
Rich3 05-28-2007, 08:54 PM In a way it's good that we don't really know, and we're mostly speculating. Because if there had been more academic themes and subjects to this show, it would have been a lot less entertaining.
Scoobiedoo30 05-29-2007, 01:39 AM I would say Jan

Very true!
It's nice that the writers never harped on the schoolwork and grades of the kids. Nothing wrong with an occasional episode centering around one of the kids having trouble in a class, but hold it to one episode, solve the problem and get it over with, so we can move on to other things.
Lucy&BradyFan 06-04-2007, 06:49 AM Smartest - probably Jan
Worst - I reckon Peter (he was more like the class clown!)
Scoobiedoo30 06-05-2007, 01:27 AM I wonder what kind of rades the kids got
sunshinefizzy 06-07-2007, 08:04 PM Well, if Cindy was book smart like she was common sense smart, school would have been hell for her.
Scoobiedoo30 06-08-2007, 01:11 AM I knew Cindy would be smart
FredScuttle 06-08-2007, 02:58 PM I dunno, Cindy couldn't even spell Marcia's name. She also had trouble spelling Mark Millard when she took a phone message for Alice (she spelled the first name Makr)...maybe her hair ribbons were tied too tight? ;)
catlover79 06-08-2007, 03:35 PM Marcia, Jan and Greg always struck me as honor model students. The others I'm sure did OK in school, as I'm sure Mike and Carol would not have put up with failing grades. Bobby never struck me as that academic, and proved it in A Very Brady Christmas when he dropped out of college to become a race car driver.
