CHICAGO (AP) - Donald Trump has exchanged insults with Rosie O'Donnell and questions Elisabeth Hasselbeck's intelligence. So who does the real estate mogul support in the recent on-air argument between "The View" television talk show co-hosts?

Neither, apparently. "I've always said Rosie is very self-destructive," Trump said Thursday in Chicago. "... As far as Elisabeth Hasselbeck, I've always said she's probably the dumbest person on television, but when she called me . . . obnoxious, she was probably right."

Wednesday's argument included O'Donnell calling Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not defending her when media outlets suggested that she had called U.S. troops "terrorists" during a previous debate.

"What you did was not defend me. . . . I asked you if you believed what the Republican pundits were saying - you said nothing, and that's cowardly," O'Donnell said.

Hasselbeck responded: "Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe."

Trump, star of NBC's "The Apprentice," said he does not watch ABC'S "The View," then got in another O'Donnell dig.

"Rosie wears thin. Rosie will go on to another show and, like her first show, it'll fail," Trump said.

On a more serious note, Trump said he had "no idea" if he will be called to testify in the racketeering and fraud trial of media baron Conrad Black, now taking place in Chicago.

"I know he's going through a trial, I haven't been following the trial, so there's not much I can comment about," Trump said.

Walters denies "The View" tiff a ratings stunt By Steve Gorman
34 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Barbara Walters, creator and co-executive producer of ABC's talk show "The View," denied that this week's heated on-air clash over Iraq between Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck was a ratings stunt.

"Aunt Barbara is back, and there will be peace in the kingdom," Walters said on Thursday as she returned to the daytime series a day after the emotional on-air exchange between co-hosts O'Donnell and Hasselbeck.

A number of TV commentators have suggested the debate, some of which was shown in split screen, was orchestrated as a May "sweeps" gimmick to boost the program's ratings.

But Walters said such a notion was "just absurd," adding, "The highest ratings we've had for 'The View' this whole year were in February, when there were no feuds."

O'Donnell was absent from Thursday's broadcast, fueling speculation that she might leave the show ahead of her previously planned June 21 departure from the series.

But Walters said O'Donnell was merely taking a day off by prior arrangement to celebrate her partner Kelly's birthday. Friday and next Monday's shows have already been taped in advance in observance of an extended Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Asked whether O'Donnell might move up her exit date in the aftermath of her latest tiff with Hasselbeck, show spokesman Karl Nilsson said, "I have nothing else to say on that particular matter."

O'Donnell, known for her unabashedly liberal views, and Hasselbeck, who is a political conservative, have sparred frequently on the show, though they profess to be good friends off camera.

Their exchange on Wednesday, perhaps their most heated, was a continuation of a debate over the Iraq war that began last week when O'Donnell said on the show, "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"

Supporters of the U.S. war effort accused O'Donnell of equating American soldiers with terrorists, and Hasselbeck said on Wednesday that O'Donnell should clarify her statement.

In the ensuing shouting match, the two women ended up calling each other "cowardly" before a commercial break ended the confrontation.

O'Donnell surprised viewers last month when she announced on the show that she had decided to end her run as co-host of "The View" when her contract expires in mid-June after just nine months on the air.

But she said then that she planned to return to the show next season for special segments and as a recurring guest host.

Bigmouth Strikes Again
by The Smiths

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said I'd like to smash every tooth
In your head

Oh ... sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking
When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her Roman nose
And her Walkman started to melt
Oh ...

Bigmouth, la ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race

Oh, bigmouth, la ... bigmouth, la
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her Roman nose
And her hearing aid started to melt

Bigmouth, la ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh ...

Bigmouth, oh ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place

IMO, I think Walters knew she made a poor mistake in judgement when she hired Rosie. But she'll never admit to that. Celebrities always have to be 'say face' with everyone when you're in the ' tv spotlight'. I could never be 'say face' to people(generally speaking).

I see it as a last chance to grab the viewers since it is LAST DAY OF SWEEPS.

BTW, Walters said that the highest ratings the View ever got was in February of this year.
