Fred and Bubba going to night school for thier high school diploma was a pretty lame final episode for S&S(IMO)....Perhaps they didn't know that there wouldn't be a season 7....but then again, Fred and Lamont did say "I love you" to each other in the closing scene, so maybe they did. At least Good Times' writers had all of the characters "movin' on up" out of the projects, and on to live happily ever after....The writers for S&S could have done a lot better I think.....

My problem with this episode is that it isn't funny at all- probably the only episode that I didn't find anything at all in to laugh at. But there are several signs that this was planned as a final show- the I love you thing, Fred's acknowledgment of each of the key players...I wouldn't have minded any of this if the episode was actually funny which it isn't.

there were a few funny parts in this ep, but you are right, not much to laugh at in this one.....Hearing Esther going off about Fred's mystery woman (the teacher) was kinda funny....The big guy who sat behind Fred in class had a funny line...."hey man I'm tryin' to better myself, why don't you shut your face!".....and if you listen closely when the diplomas are being handed out, you can hear Fred's comments about the other students...."she got one too? How'd that ugly white woman get one?"

They probably would have if they knew. Keep in mind television shows complete their filming in late Februrary-early March; several weeks before networks announce their upfronts. The ratings for the last season were still high so it was assumed they were coming back. Remember Redd Foxx was lured by ABC to help boost their schedule as they wanted him to do a project from them--hence the failed comedy hour.
