what short-lived shows, particuarly your personal favourites and ones which were cancelled, ought to have lasted a season or two more in their syndication?

for me, it would be caroline in the city and alas it should've went ahead with the 5th season- even though the writing of the 4th was lousy and nowhere near as good as the first 2 seasons, and hangin with mr cooper- it would've been interesting to see how the mark and vanessa relationship would've developed later on

There was a show called Invasion that I really liked and it was cancelled after the first season. They didn't get to make an ending to it, it just left you wondering about the fate of all the characters.

yeah, i agree with you. good point. :) that played a major role in the downfall of most shows being on for no less than 3, 4 or 5 seasons. had the networks not tampered with the time slots and the shifting of schedules for the majority of those shows, then perhaps things might've been different

The Other Half - I LOVED that show! Danny Bonaduce was probably at his most sane.

Providence - I was so disappointed when it was cancelled, especially since it was still getting good ratings.

Crime Story immediately comes to mind.

Wasn't that the show with Dennis Farina? Del Shannon's "Runaway" was the theme song? I remember that one. My dad liked that show.

WKRP IN CINNCINATI, THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE (however, if it stayed the same way it was during the 2nd and 3rd seasons I wouldn't have been sorry to see it go. But it was starting to get better in the 4th season. But, alas, it was too late by then. Unfortunately:( ).

The Class, Stark Raving Mad, Delta, It's All Relative, Dark Shadows (the 1991 revival)... there are so many.

Also, one of my all-time favorites, Wonder Woman -- which I would've liked to have seen go on for one more season, with the new setting and supporting characters that they introduced in the last episode they filmed.

Dark Angel - A third season would have been really good if it was written well.

Everwood -- at least another season. Darn WB for not having enough money and CW for renewing 7th Heaven (even though I like that show) instead of Everwood.
Teen Angel -- I know, bad acting, bad writing, whatever. I thought it was a cute, funny, TGIF sitcom that deserved another season.

I Dream of Jeannie could have had another season. I would have liked to have seen Tony and Jeannie have a baby and to see how they dealt with it. Of course, we know they did have a son in the reunion show 15 Years Later but it would have been nice to have seen them have the baby and so on. I mean seeing Tony and Jeannie's genie baby? It would have been hilarious! :lol:

Joey could have lasted longer but unfortunately NBC pulled the plug without really giving it a chance. I liked it. :(

i watched a few episodes of Stacked, starring pamela anderson and christopher lloyd- aka doc brown from the back to the future films- for the first time today, and i thought it was interesting. i kinda liked it. i was even surprised to read that it is created by steven levitan, who previously worked on the larry saunders show and frasier. it would've been nice to see at least 2 more seasons of this sitcom but unfortunately, it only lasted for one season

I agree. Loved Dark Angel. Also I would have liked to have seen what season two of Point Pleasant might have been like. And of course The Inside was also a good show that was cancelled too soon.

Brooklyn Bridge went out too soon, but it went out a class act. But in a way it went out just right. The show was attempting to capture a moment in time, and it accomplished that. If it kept going, the kids in the cast would have been too old--and the writers would've been straining to come up with new scripts and the show might have lost its excellence. An 'older' Allen and Katie wouldn't have appealed as much to the viewers; the show had a certain innocence about it that endeared itself to viewers, and held a special feeling for those who grew up in that setting, and which many viewers, including me, could identify with.

Not my opinion, but my brother often wonders why the show Becker didn't stay around longer. He likes the show, but I don't.

I wish Gidget could have had another season too. I thought Sally Field was so adorable in that show.

Jesse- it lasted for 2 seasons in the first season it placed 5th and i think in it's 2nd season it placed 14th. and also won a people's choice award for it's first season so I still don't get why it was cancelled. It was still pretty funny when it ended. think it should have lasted at least for more seasons.

Jut one of many odd decisions made by NBC. Probably because it didn't pull in Friends watercooler talk. And now look at their pitiful schedule. lol

Spenser: For Hire - I think it should've ran until the 90s. Some people may disagree, but I think it shoud've.

Major Dad - Itf CBS hadn't move it to another timeslot, it would've ran until 1996 or so.

Perfect Strangers - would've loved to see a season 8 with the duo as family men, coping with fatherhood.

ALF should've had a fifth season. I also think Evening Shade and Nurses could've gone on for an additional season. Especially in the case of Nurses, which was retooled into actually being funny during season 3.

The Wonder Years (1988-93, ABC) - so we could see the gang graduate McKinley High School, and probably follow them in college. It could have followed them into the 1980s--can you picture the gang with Men at Work and George Strait music playing in the background? (I would have said Madonna, but I cannot stand her music. But that's way off topic.)

State of Grace (2001-02, FOX/ABC Family) - to me it was the second coming of TWY by looking back at the 1960s, but it only lasted a measly 38 episodes.

Home Improvement (1991-99, ABC) - to see the Taylors adjust to life in Bloomington, Indiana, after Tim left "Tool Time".

Another show that I wish would have lasted longer was Picket Fences. I was really starting to get into that show and then it was canceled. I thought it was a great show.

There are a lot of shows out there that aren't given a chance and they pull the plug. I mean there are so many shows out there that suck and yet they stay on the air. It's so stupid. :rolleyes:

I wish John Stamos didn't quit Full House so we could have been given the 9th season that was going to happen. The show ended too soon with too many unanswered questions and wasn't given a proper ending.

I nominate "My Name is Earl". It lasted four seasons, which is actually not a bad run, which wasn't a bad run, but think that mistakes with the writers ruined a fun series.

The premise was interesting, original and funny. Earl decides to change his life, made a list of people's harmed (through the power of Karma), with Earl going to a different person each week to ask forgiveness and make amends, usually with complicated and humorous results.

Earl "jumped the shark" when the character was sent to prison (to save Joy). The prison episodes were not funny, and it took the focus away from what the show was originally all about. I have the series on DVD and basically skip these episodes.

I think then (maybe) the show took a nose dive, with the writers getting Earl out of jail and straightened back to its original form, it was too late. Earl even did a cliffhanger episode for 5th season that never happened.

I like "Raising Hope" which has the most of the same writing staff and I hope they learned their lesson about changing the show like they did Earl. Only time will tell.

New adventures of old christine,should've got a final 13 ep final order to fatten up the show for syndication. The show ended with the bare minimum amount with 86 or 87 episodes.

Mama's family should've lasted longer on nbc, I perferred those episodes before tjey added that woody boyd rip-off, bubba and that annoying iola.

I agree with Hearts Afire, the original premise was unique and season two they turned the show into an Evening Shade-esque show, and lost a distinct voice.

There was a CBS sitcom in the late 90's/early 2000's called "Ladies Man" starring Alfred Molina that deserved far better than it go.

Also, UPN's Girlfriends was cancelled without good reason.

Jesse the NBC's series that went from 98-2000. It was so well written and funny. It was even in the top 20 when it was cancelled. It could have last 5 more seasons the the least.

One of the fewest shows that was still very good in the ratings until the studio execs selfish wife wanted Gunsmoke, so it got replaced with Marshal Dillon. They could have replaced something else lower in the ratings, but thy had it out for GI all along. But atleast it survives in reruns and my DVD sets.

If Jesse had moved away from Thursday it probably wouldn't have lasted long, just like Veronica's Closet.

Also, Jesse was losing a huge percentage of the audience that would tune out after "Friends". Also, critically speaking despite good notices for Christina Applegate, the show overall was panned.
