.......in episode "Close Encounters of the Worst Kind" Because it made me see that someone would put Alice in her place by showing her what kind of a person she really is: a goody-two shoes. Alice did Flo pretty good, but Flo doing Alice was funny.

I have yet to see the episode since it is only 5pm here, but I know what you mean. It is funny to see other people imitate others, especially when they have these flaws that the person can exaggerate.

They cut part of it out, but watch Alice in the background whenever they're talking about Flo and her dates. Several times, you see her do the "wrinkling and twitching" Flo talked about...Too bad they didn't have the foresight to do that on previous episodes (at least I never noticed it on any others). Woulda been like Robert on Every Loves Raymond, where he touches his food to his chin before he eats it. I think he did it on the pilot episode, and periodically afterwards, before anyone made any mention of it.

I know what you mean. It's like on I Love Lucy where there is an episode abt "annoying habits" and all of a sudden 3 of the 4 characters seem to have habits that no one ever saw before or after that episode. The only one to have continuity was Ethel regarding her eating and making sounds as she eats.
I hate when characters are given something to do as if they have been doing it for a long time. Like Vera smoking all of a sudden in that episode when Alice is on a diet. I can't remember what Flo was trying to give up...was it men?

Flo gave up coffee (although they did make a joke about Flo and men. Flo said she was willing to give up something that was dear to her, and Mel said something like "that's bad news for all the men in this town". Alice wasn't on a diet, she was hooked on chocolate. At least Mel's was betting...they've shown him betting before (or at least after that episode, I can't remember which)

The whole imitating scene was funny. I wonder, was Polly Holliday (Flo) really from Texas?

Polly was born in Jasper Alabama. In the first season, Flo talked about being from Alabama, specifically in episode "Sex Education" (I don't remember if she mentioned it in any other episodes). Starting in the 2nd season, she was supposed to be from Cowtown Texas.
