what makes his last show so recordable?
Brian Damage 05-24-2007, 12:14 PM what makes his last show so recordable?
Because it is his LAST show!
TripperFan 05-24-2007, 12:59 PM Because it is his LAST show!
AND it's in the script.
Sorry - couldn't resist. ;)
TVFactFan 05-24-2007, 06:05 PM Because it is his LAST show!
I need to know what makes it a KEEPER. If it's anything like that crap that was on last week I will pass-lol
Brian Damage 05-24-2007, 06:47 PM Mriggles I'm sure could give you the details.
Dynomite 05-24-2007, 10:44 PM Mriggles I'm sure could give you the details.
Brian, I don't care what some others say about Bob Barker's last Price is Right taping, I'm recording it for prosperity. The show will go on without Bob(NBC's Tonight Show continued on with Jay Leno succeeding the now late Johnny Carson), and hopefully, Fremantle will select Todd Newton to succeed Bob and pick up where he left off. Some others will disagree with me, but I'm very positive Todd Newton will succeed Bob Barker as host of The Price is Right.
mriggles 05-26-2007, 02:42 PM what makes his last show so recordable?
LOL I have been watching the show day in & day out for over 25 years, it will be a very emotional show for all true price fans!!!! Its the end of an era. The new season of price may be delayed until november because they are still looking for a new host. Word I have is that their number 1 choice didn't pan out.
mriggles 05-26-2007, 02:43 PM Because it is his LAST show!
exactly...... duh...lol
TVFactFan 05-26-2007, 02:45 PM exactly...... duh...lol
Well I will record and watch to see if it's keepable

Didn't you want Katie Couric's last show on the Today Show? What makes this any different?
TVFactFan 05-26-2007, 02:55 PM Didn't you want Katie Couric's last show on the Today Show? What makes this any different?
Yeah because i knew they would do flashbacks of her time on the show. I don't know what to expect with the last PIR with Bob Barker

With a legend like Bob Barker retiring, it is still good to have in the collection.

It will be a matter of opinion my friend. You thought the specials last week were not good, the 50 year celebration was very well done & a great tribute..

But why show the OLD Price is Right clips that we have been seeing for years? It's time to see something NEW
Brian Damage 05-26-2007, 08:06 PM I could be wrong, but I have a feeling the new host will be introduced the first time on this show.
mriggles 05-26-2007, 08:48 PM But why show the OLD Price is Right clips that we have been seeing for years? It's time to see something NEW
There were some new clips on the 50th anniversary show along with the traditional ones.
mriggles 05-26-2007, 08:57 PM I could be wrong, but I have a feeling the new host will be introduced the first time on this show.
It would make sense Brian, but I would not bet on it, Even if they had a new host ready to be named. I found out some interesting info today regarding the search for that person. This search may be going on for a while & the new season may not start until November.

Well, as long as they take their time and make sure they have the right person, I have no problem with the delay.
mriggles 05-26-2007, 09:19 PM Well, as long as they take their time and make sure they have the right person, I have no problem with the delay.
I agree, in my opinion the right person is right under their nose (rich fields) & i hope he gets a shot here & i am starting to hear some rumbilings that he may get a look or 2 here in the coming weeks. If they don't announce the host by the time bobs last show tapes on june 6th, i see no way the show starts taping season 36 on time.
TVFactFan 05-26-2007, 09:19 PM Well, as long as they take their time and make sure they have the right person, I have no problem with the delay.
There is no RIGHT other person. CBS just needs to create a NEW game show for another person, seeing someone else come through those dors will ALWAYS BE STRANGE

The only game show hosting experience he had was some lottery show in Florida for a few years. Rich Fields doesn't even deserve the job he has now. Rod Roddy had genuine excitement in his voice, Johnny Oleson had a more calm, reassuring voice, but Fields has neither. The best way to describe him is an introvert that's trying to sound like an extrovert. I don't watch The Price Is Right very often nowadays for a garden variety of reasons, but one of the times I did catch it recently, a contestant had a couple legitimate questions about some prizes (he didn't want to screw things up, which is understandable), and Fields responded with some smart-aleck, smug comments.
I have wracked my brain trying to think of someone that could replace Bob, and I just can't think of one.

Which means only one thing, there should be no replacement and CBS should create a NEW GAME SHOW hosted by someone else and let the price is right end along with the exit of bob barker

That's unlikely to happen, considering Fremantle has already declared The Price is Right will go on. I'm still betting Todd Newton will succeed Bob Barker, hosting the show.

That's the dumbest decision CBS ever made in the history of the Network

I have to agree, ratings will go down withiout Bob and who knows, it might get canceled due to poor ratings
Bob Barker will NEVER be replaced, period! Bob is the heart and soul of the Price of Right!

Especially since he was there from Day One-lol

Remember, Bob Barker wasn't the original host of The Price is Right-Bill Cullen was. When CBS got the show in 1972, they chose Bob Barker to host, because Bill Cullen was busy with NBC's Three on a Match. It's called transitioning, and no one ever said it would be easy. Ratings might down once his successor starts the show, but then again, it might not-think about it. Another thing to keep in mind, Bob Barker at 83, made the decision to retire, and he actually said he'd like a younger, experienced host to be his successor. CBS and Fremantle have already made the decision to continue The Price is Right with Bob's eventual successor. Keep in mind, Bob Barker will be succeeded, but never replaced, if you can understand the difference between succession and replacement.

But wasn't the show changed to how it is now when Barker took over in 72?

Rich Fields does a good job announcing, but think about next season. He could be announcing for Todd Newton on The Price is Right.

If I were a betting man I still say at this point it will be Newton as well if fo no other reason, he has the knowledge about the show because he still does the price is right stage show in vegas. They need someone who can step right in, they are running out of time, if they have any prayer of getting season 36 underway on time they have to begin production in the next month or so. They should not just settle for someone, they need to get the right host for the show. I have a very weird feeling we will be seeing reruns well into the fall, I just don't see anyway season 36 can kick off in mid sept at this point.

I don't know about reruns into September, but you're correct about Todd Newton. Since he hosts TPIR Live at Bally's in Las Vegas, has actually attended tapings of the show and taken notes in the process on how to host the show, clearly Todd Newton is the most qualified host to succeed Bob Barker. Fremantle needs to realize Todd is ready to succeed Bob and host The Price is Right in season 36. My guess is Bob, himself, wants Todd as his successor, the show is ready for Todd, we, the game show viewing public, are ready for Todd, so let's get with it, Fremantle, if you're looking for Bob Barker's successor, Todd Newton is the host you're looking for.
JulieSomoski 06-03-2007, 05:45 PM Does anyone know who Bob wants as his successor?

The host who is most qualified to succeed him, based on his knowledge of the show.

aka Rich Fields
Dynomite 06-03-2007, 11:02 PM aka Rich Fields
Possibly, Brian, but then again, he's not quite in the running to succeed Bob Barker. I'm still banking on Todd Newton to be Bob's successor.

I think he is, I have it on good authority that he is the one Bob Barker would like the most. I could be wrong, but it makes sense on so many different levels.
Chelsea 06-04-2007, 12:07 AM Fields getting the show isn't completely out of the question, but he's a capable announcer, and they'd like to keep him there. He isn't on the shortest list, but he's in contention, as are a few others.
While Barker's input will be factored, a lot of the decision will ultimately come down to the actual production company (Fremantle) as well as CBS.
mriggles 06-04-2007, 04:59 AM Does anyone know who Bob wants as his successor?
Bob has never said anything on the record regarding this, but i do know that he does like Todd Newton & i KNOW FOR A FACT he likes Rich fields

He is officially in the running, however he has not been given an " official audition"

Rich is in the running!!!
Brian Damage 06-04-2007, 09:37 AM Rich is in the running!!!
:woohoo: I think that would be the best choice followed by Newton.
Dynomite 06-04-2007, 10:13 AM Todd Newton hosting and Rich Fields announcing on The Price is Right next season? It could be possible, but I agree with Seth-Fremantle and CBS have the final say over whether or not that becomes a reality. BTW, Bob Barker will tape his final TPIR broadcast in a couple of days. I can only imagine how emotional a day at CBS it will be when Bob signs off for the last time.
JulieSomoski 06-04-2007, 06:04 PM Is anyone here going to the last taping? I tried to get tickets for weeks . . .
mriggles 06-04-2007, 07:01 PM Is anyone here going to the last taping? I tried to get tickets for weeks . . .
Just to give u all an idea how hard it is to get a ticket for this last show. I know someone who lets just say has a lot of pull & ranking within CBS & even this person could not get me a ticket & they can't even go even with if they wanted too. Only way In is to camp out which people have been doing since Friday for this last show & there are still a few before that one to go!!!
Scoobiedoo30 06-05-2007, 03:48 PM Bob will be missed
ClassicTVGal 06-10-2007, 11:54 PM Well thanks for the information. I am working on Friday, and will have company for the weekend, but maybe we can all watch it at 8. :)
