View Full Version : Keeping track of different User Names & Passwords?
Janice 05-20-2007, 01:30 AM Do you have the same user name (screen name) and passwords for all your websites, and do you write them down? I have one password that I use; however, some sites (stores, etc) require a password with numbers it as well, so I just add the same two numbers to my usual password.
I'm not registered at many message boards, but I have different user names at all of them. Sitcoms Online is the only site where I use my real name.
I write down my user names and passwords on a piece of paper that I keep under my mousepad.
Ireneparalegal 05-20-2007, 01:33 AM I like you have the same password, and just like you, there are some sites where I have to have a number with the letters. So, with my password name I added a number right after the letters. I keep the same password because I would have it hard to try and remember the password. There are a few sites where I am trying to remember if I even need the password with just the NAME or the NAME AND NUMBER.
Janice 05-20-2007, 01:38 AM As much as I try to keep track of it all, I always end up clicking on that loser "Forgot Your Password?", lol.
I was so screwed up recently trying to order something from Amazon.com
I guess when I used it years ago, I had a different e:mail address. I had to create a new account, which then created a problem. I went nuts. Not all sites are user friendly. I was shopping at PetSmart.com earlier tonight, and I thought it was a buggy site.
Last week, my banking online site, asked me my childhood pet's name. What the hell? Which one? Ask me my mother's maiden name, like every other site, lol.
I'm dead in the water at IMDB.com I'm so messed up there, it's not even funny. I'm not a member anymore. Long story, but all this stuff confuses me.
Mr. Television 05-20-2007, 01:58 AM I have 3 passwords that I use on all the sites I'm registered at so if I forget it, I at least know it's one of the 3. I'm not even registered at that many places anymore anyway.
Kristen 05-20-2007, 02:42 AM I use the same passwords for everything. It just depends how long it's required to be. And I'm so bad at usernames, I usually use MTMFan. LOL Except here, of course. hehe
Fleet 05-20-2007, 03:03 AM I have different usernames on other boards, but I try to keep them similar to the one I use on here... Fleet 500, Fleet 472, Fleeter...
On some Halloween boards, I use "Hauntinggroundsfan."
I have most written down (and the password) but not all.
freshprinceofLA 05-20-2007, 05:00 AM I have mostly the same passwords for the stuff I log into. Other than that I always remember the passwords. I have a pretty good memory I don't have to write them down. Now about my user names I have about 2 or 3 similar ones to my user name at SO.
Number 9 Dream 05-20-2007, 10:03 AM I tend to have different usernames for things (I think the only other Number 9Dream name I have is for youtube, but that's all one word instead of separated like it is here). That gets me tripped up sometimes trying to remember which username goes where. For sites I use every day (like imdb, LJ, GJ, S.O., etc, it's easier to remember...but sometimes I forget my usernames for those sites I don't visit on a regular basis).
However, I do use the same password for every site I register on
Stormtracker TF 05-20-2007, 10:41 AM I have many different passwords for different boards and other internet things, but I never have once written them down. I just remember them.
tdf4077 05-20-2007, 10:48 AM man...I have too many different usernames! I have like 4 for work (which I cannot change). Then, I have 4 emails, a myspace, a facebook, pay pal, etc. I have variations of 2 different usernames and 2 different passwords for each of these...it always just takes me a few seconds to remember which one for which site! I (poorly) have some of them saved as emails to myself on my aol account.
Courtnee 05-20-2007, 11:36 AM I keep the same password and username, basicly.
Ohio8 05-20-2007, 12:00 PM I have different usernamesand passwords for each site, and I have 'em all written down. BTW, I'm registered at TVLand (my username there is Maryannfan).
I write them down because there are some I don't use very often.
EmoJoe 05-20-2007, 12:37 PM i have the same password for all my sites...and i just remember the username, or have it so it doesnt log me out.

HELLO!!!!! I know of what you speak. I am a member on IMDB...ask me when was the last time I signed on there? I get so damn frustrated with that FORGET YOUR PASSWORD? I want to type: NO A$$HOLE!!!!!!!!
GoldenGirlsFan92 05-20-2007, 06:40 PM I always have the "92" in my usernames. Password, I have different ones.
I've had "Liza" be my online name for over five years now. Really every site that I post messages on I register as Liza. It was after Miss Minnelli at first, but now I'm so used to answering it, it's kind of my other name. (Like if I meet a guy I don't like and he wants my name, I always just say it's Liza.)
I used to have the same password everywhere, but since working for a bank, I've gotten into the habit of changing my passwords every month. I don't have them written down anywhere - and I crack the whip if I see any of my tellers having them written down! :whip
treky 05-21-2007, 01:51 AM I mostly use "treky" or "stary" or variations of those 2 words for my user names and passwords, exept for my banking site, e-bay, and pay-pal. On those I change my user name and password every 30 days.
(my mother recently had a scare on pay-pal where someone got hold of her credit card number and tried to use it. She wasn't THAT worried as she only had $12 on the card, but still she cannceled the account. They told her though, that that's a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, EXTREME rarity, in fact you have a much better chance of being hit by a bus:lol: and pay-pal is still the safest way to pay on e-bay. Still though, she cannceled her pay-pal account and refuses to use them)
Zoneboy 05-21-2007, 02:55 AM pay-pal is still the safest way to pay on e-bay.
For the buyer it is but that's not always the case for the seller especially if there's a dispute. I use it both as a buyer and a seller and I can tell you from past experience that you have to use extreme caution when dealing with Paypal.
Brieannas21 05-21-2007, 12:21 PM I use the same username and password for everything. I see no point in changing up usernames, plus I'm not that creative when it comes to that.
Holly 05-21-2007, 02:37 PM I use the same password to everything I think it's alot easier to do that so i don't forget, hehe:p
