Happy Weekend Everyone! What's everyone got cookin'?

Good morning everyone!

Yes, I'm up early on a Saturday. I think I was up early last Saturday too, is this a trend I'm starting? I didn't go out last night so I got to bed early.

I'm heading home to NJ in a few hours to see the family. It's my mom's birthday today, so the family is going out to dinner tonight to celebrate. I'm heading home early to hang out with the parents, and watch the Met/Yankee game this afternoon. I just hope the game isn't rained out.

This weekend the 9th Avenue food fest takes over the neighborhood. About 20 blocks of 9th avenue is going to be filled with vendors cooking up all kinds of goodies, and selling all kinds of stuff.

I'm really not much of a fan of the food fest, it's noisy and messy and crowded, and the same vendors seem to pop up at all the NYC street fairs. Not a lot of variety anymore.
Plus, several years ago there was a big crackdown on alcohol sales at the fair, so drinking is discouraged. BOOOOOO!

I'll be back in the city tomorrow. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Happy Weekend Everyone :)

Today is going to be active. Shopping this morning and tonight, i'm going to a nephew's high school play. I'm not sure what i'm going to do tomorrow. I'd like to get a screenhouse but if the weather is crappy, it'll have to wait.

Good morning on this Saturday morning! It's now 7:23 a.m. for me! I have been up since 6:00 a.m.! I am not sure why I am even up this early on a Saturday! I couldn't sleep!

I have five hours of work this afternoon. Before work, I am going to call about the security camera situation so I can gather more information about this thief I have been dealing with all week long! Then, I also plan on going to the store and buying some dulce de leche ice cream. Mmmmm.... I am craving it right now!

Okay...enough rambling...I am heading out the door NOW!

Well, I'm sitting here with my cuppa joe and not yet dressed... I have a date with my chiropractor in an hour in the next town over for a neck adjustment (I've been having neck issues for over a week now), and that's it as far as I know.

A very good friend of mine, who is originally from around here, moved to the UK in around September of 2003. Every year, she comes home for 8 weeks or more... She just got in last Saturday, so I think I'll call her up at some point today or tomorrow & see what she's up to.

Other than that, I have no idea what else is going on for me.

Today is my father's retirement party. Family from all over the country are coming to NY to celebrate with my Dad. It is a bit bittersweet though, because my brother and his kids were just kicked out of his house by his wife. He is now in a deep depression. I feel so bad for him. It is one thing to kick out a husband, but two little kids as well??? The bitch is nuts! Sorry for the rant. Tomorrow, I will take out his kids to see Shrek The Third.

I feel so bad, because they have no clue what is going on.

We had a nice dinner at this great Italian place in Hamilton. Lots of fun, although I wish i had the filet mignon like Janice had.
After dinner we came back to Mom and Dad's place for coffeee and birthday cake.
Everyone just left a little while ago. I am beat!
Tomorrow Mom Dad and I are going out for brunch then i'll head back to the city.

;)

That sounds like such a nice time and a great weekend that you're having Tom. You're so fortunate, and I know that you know that. I miss visiting my parents. Just about every Saturday afternoon, I'd drop by to say hello.

I'm sorry about this turn of events Brian. She sounds like a real piece of work, your sister-in-law. Where are they staying?

Congratulations of your father's retirement. I hope he has a long, healthy and happy one. :)

Oh my God, how horrible. Kicking out the kids too???? WTF??? What fault do they have? Being born? Psycho bitch!!!!!   My thoughts are with your brother and I hope and pray that he finds the strength to keep his head up and know that people who may not even know him (like me) care.

Congrats! :) I just got my braces off last February and it feels sooo amazing. I love my teeth now, hehe. Treat yourself to all the foods you couldn't have in braces! ;)

Anyway, not much is planned for me today...I offered to work 12-6 today (I normally don't work Sundays). But, see, my crush will be working so now you can see my rationale for being there on my day off ;) :D I'm pathetic.

I had this date with guy (on Saturday night); but unfortunately, I did not hear from him to make this particular date definite, so I made other plans and hanged out with friends; then later that same evening, I received a text message that I stood him up?????
It sounds like some sort of miscommunication somewhere.

I'm going to eat some menudo/posole with my mom's neighbor. After that, I hope to go to a movie with my mom. Later in the evening, I am going to my first-ever "Swedish" group meet that I started.

Yesterday I went to the office for about 2 hrs, then I took my girls bathing suit shopping they’re 3 yrs old and 1yrs old, that was hell. And we went to church last night. Today I'm doing laundry and packing my girls clothes for our vacation. So no fun stuff this weekend.

The woman is nuts, she called my brother and told him to come back with the kids. I am happy for the kids because they wanted Mommy, but my brother shouldn't go back to her. I felt so sorry for those kids. Today, I took them to Target to buy some clothes because they were wearing the same stuff since Friday. I also took them to see Shrek 3 and to McDonald's then when I come back with them, the bitch wants to work things out. She is a LOON.

Now I am at work and to be honest, am happy to be here. lol

Sounds like a case of co-dependency Brian. Aside from the fact she is behaving like a total bitch and moron, people who are in relationships where they say "I don't want you" then switch to "I want you back, I love you" sounds like the classic co-dependent person. They will do that sh*t back and forth for a very long time. Sounds like counseling is needed here. I feel for the kids, I really do. HUGS TO THEM!!!!!!! :bighug:

I use to like to go to all you can eat places when I was younger. And then I saw this thing on Dateline or 20/20 and it changed my whole way of looking at those kind of places.

I think I know what you are referring to, since I love to watch those news magazine shows. Was it abt how the food may cause food poisoning, etc?

Brie, then you may never enjoy going to Las Vegas...BUFFET CITY!!!!!!!

It was about the whole handling of the utensils and how the sneeze guard really doesn't protect anything. How the utensils that other people has touched over and over are resting on the food. LOL They showed countless people touching the end part of the tongs and spoons (the parts that picks up the food) and then turning them around to grab their food. It just turned me off.

Oh yeah, it's coming to me now. I know I watched it. However, I had those thoughts in my head prior to watching that show. You and I have had convos on here where we mentioned bathrooms, toilets, flushing with our feet, etc. so you can imagine where I stand on the tongs and utensils in an all-you-can eat place. I always carry a bottle in my purse of that germicide stuff. My boyfriend thinks I am somewhat crazy, but I can't stand the thought of what you posted above. I even have my 5 year old use that stuff on his hands.

I use that too LOL, To let you know how big of a germaphob I am, when I go to the grocery store, I take the sales papers and I wrap them around the handle of the shopping cart

When my second daughter was born I bought a Baby Shopping Cart Cover  I don't know if you've seen them, but they cover just about the whole top part of the cart that a baby would touch  When we go traveling I buy a big thing of Lysol and spray everything that's in the Hotel rooms, from the bathroom floor to the remote control and telephone. I just bought a big can yesterday since we're going on vacation next week... Don't get me started on what I do in hospitals

A Swedish group meet, that sounds very interesting, Mona..good luck with that:)
Awwww...thanks, Tara! It was actually a lot of fun! There were only three of us, but we talked a bit about Sweden/Swedish culture/travelling to Sweden. I then taught them some Swedish, and they liked my idea of teaching them Swedish as well as meeting up twice a month and doing some other Swedish-related activities such as cooking in Swedish, etc. So, I hope this will be a success for me to continue a Swedish Meetup group in my city. It's not really huge on Scandinavian things, so this will be unique! :D

Haha, come to North Dakota. We here (as well as Minnesota) have a LAAAAARGE Scandinavian population... Mainly Norwegian. There are so many Scandinavian people here, we have an annual Scandinavian festival held in October - the Norsk Hostfest (http://www.hostfest.com/). I just saw the first commercial for 'em last night - they usually start advertising around this time of the year. They've gotten big names to perform for them in the past - Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Don Knotts, Vicki Lawrence, Tim Conway & Harvey Korman and Liza Minelli, to name just a few. Anyway, this festival is the biggest Scandinavian festival in America, which is pretty cool. :)

And, ooooo, Bill Cosby is gonna be at this year's Hostfest. I should go again... That'd be fun.

I know about Minnesota being referred to as "Little Scandinavia," but I didn't know that it was the same for North Dakota. That's cool!

Thanks for the link! I would love to attend this festival one of these days. I think it'd be fun! :D

Yeah. ND isn't #1 in terms of that, but it's pretty close. And it makes sense, when you consider that ND borders MN. I think some number like 250,000 to 500,000 people come out for the Hostfest every year... it's always a big to-do thing. I've only been to the Hostfest once, and that was to see Vicki Lawrence... it was crazy, about 10,000 people turned out to see her perform that day. There were so many people there, they needed big screens so that the people in the back could see her better.
