I was just curious as to why Vivian Vance never had any children of her own. Four marriages and no little 'un? Was it her choice or maybe she was barren? I'm pretty sure she would've made a great mother.

I read the Vivian Vance bio several years ago, but don't remember whether this question was addressed. But just guessing, maybe she was concerned about bringing a child into the world given her own mental health issues that she was struggling with most of her life.

Oh I never realized that. Maybe also the fact that her career was in full gear and she was married to an abusive man.

No. I can't recall where I read it, but it either said VIVIAN PROBABLY HAD MISCARRIAGES or it said VIVIAN HAD MISCARRIAGES.

I thought about that too. Audrey Meadows from "The Honeymooners" and Betty White from "The Golden Girls" both said their reason for not having children was because of their career. Maybe that was Vivian's choice. :confused:

:yeahthat I love being an aunt, but I really don't want to have kids of my own. So maybe Viv felt the same way.

It's probably a very good thing she and Phil Ober never had kids. If he was beating up on her, what would he have done to a child?? :eek: :mad:

Lucy had two beautiful children: Lucie, Jr. and Desi, Jr., so she was definitely able to have children. Miscarriages I don't know. It's always possible... Some are induced by severe stress and I little doubt Ms. Ball had a stress-free life with such a hectic career.

Lucy apparently had a very hard time with her pregnancies, both "little" Lucy and Desi jr were delivered by C-section

I think Lucy had at least one miscarriage - I think I read that in one of her biographies a long time ago.

I thought one of Viv's husbands was a closet homosexual. Seems I read this somewhere. Thus I imagine it was not a very intimate relationship. Either way, I can't stand kids and am happy not to have any. I guess each to his (or her) own.

I've been working with children for about 11 years and I have to agree with storrs19. I'm very glad I don't have kids. I mean don't get me wrong. They're great and I enjoy working with them but I just look forward to going home after a long day at work to peace and quiet. I know many women who don't have a passion to have children. Maybe that was the case with Vivian and many other actresses.
