View Full Version : Should the name of this site be renamed to TVShowsOnline.com?
TVFactFan 05-17-2007, 01:54 PM Especially since the Unsolved Mysteries Message Board is the most active Board on the site along with dramas and Reality shows. So since it's just not sitcoms being discussed, TJ i think u may want to go with TVShowsOnline.com
Sound good?-lol

You would be amazed at all the people and relatives of people profiled on the show that actually post on the board so its definitely very well known. I'm just thankful that TJ has the great taste to be a big UM fan and decided to dedicate a board to it. :D

TVFactFan 05-17-2007, 04:14 PM Jumped who?
I was saying that Sitcomsonline has jumped the shark, meaning that it must be going down hill anytime Unsolves Mysterious Board has been ACTIVE-lol

Right-lol
Yooch 05-18-2007, 01:28 AM Of course, you are right. It is much more about TV shows, not sitcoms.
Nevertheless...being the ever traditionalist that I am, I think it should stay "Sitcoms Online". Here's why: TV's only been around a little more than a couple of generations; it had origins and has continuity. During the early years of primetime TV, in the 50's and 60's, the sitcom largeley defined TV. Of all the kinds of programming--news, sports, variety shows, dramas--all which had their own role, and in some cases a prominant role--they were overshadowed by the sitcom. People back then, when they said they were going to watch TV on a particular evening--it was the sitcom that first came to people's minds.
TVShows Online is more accurate, and I do see your point, but I think Sitcoms Online sort of captures the legacy of where TV came from, and keeps that continuity.
I am Roboto 05-18-2007, 08:01 AM Or just purchase that domain, make it refer here and keep the site name the same. A nice middle ground, though I think everything is fine as is, lol. I've seen other sites branch out and keep the original name - NTCompatible for instance.
Jonathan 05-21-2007, 09:57 PM Didn't SO have a previous URL/name before?
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-21-2007, 10:46 PM I vote SolomonOnline.com

So very well said my friend GGTDM.
Yooch 05-21-2007, 11:27 PM Thank you for your kind words, Irene, my friend! :)
And, by the way, I think your 'I Love Lucy' stamp avatar is not only great, but it sort of 'captures', in tangible form, what I was attempting to say in my post, namely that the sitcom is an essential part of the culture--saying 'TVshows Online' misses something for me somehow.
Mr. Television 05-21-2007, 11:35 PM Of course, you are right. It is much more about TV shows, not sitcoms.

It's to bad sitcoms are so out of flavor nowadays. What do we have to do to get a top 20 sitcom anymore? When I was a kid most nights had my family watching 4 sitcoms and a drama at 10...nowadays I hardly watch any primetime sitcoms.
PZelda 05-21-2007, 11:39 PM Didn't SO have a previous URL/name before?
You are right about that, yes SO had a different URL before sitcomsonline.com. However, the website name has ALWAYS been Sitcoms Online (as far as I know). The URL used to be tvlinksonline.com up until maybe late 2004/early 2005.

So true!
The boards used to be on tvlinksonline.com, but it was easier to merge everything on 1 url.
I had plans for a site that covered all shows, but it never got off the ground.
TVShowsOnline.com was taken a long time ago.. probably before I had any domain names, or I would have registered it.
Czas na Zywiec 05-22-2007, 04:05 AM TVSO!
And then everyone would shorten it to SO and we'd be back to square one!

Here Here Crystaldawn!!!
I for one am glad the Unsolved Mysteries board is alive and kicking!!! Some of these cases have gone cold for over 20 years now, and I think it's great that there's a place to discuss these cases with people who are as equally passionate about them. :)
Go UM!!
As for the new name, I think Yooch said it best. SitcomsOnline captures the history/legacy of Television. From how it began in the 50's and 60's with I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show to today with Grey's Anatomy and American Idol. :)
